Schizoaffective disorder

Hi, I'm new to this forum. My diagnosis is SAD. Just hoping to get better at coping with illness by getting involved with this forum. Thanks.

Re: Schizoaffective disorder

Hi @Gezza there can also be lack of appropriate moods/behaviours or even catatonia associated with psychosis. Psychosis is also a derailment of normal thought processes. These characteristics form the basis of negative symptoms (something taken away) of psychosis. The delusions and hallucinations are considered the positive symptoms (something added) of psychosis. So yes, there is much more to psychosis than hearing voices, hallucinating or delusionary thinking.

Re: Schizoaffective disorder

Hi @Gezza, I've been diagnosed with S-affective. I don't use SAD cause that can also mean seasonal affective disorder.
I've just gotten out of hospital after a minor blip. I've not got it together cognitively at the moment to read all the posts in this thread, but just wanted to say 'Hi'.

Hi. Does anyone have sleep disturbances with SAD. I would like to talk more about my symptoms and other people,s symptoms. I am new to the site and definitely feeling lonely and isolated. Thanks.

Re: Schizoaffective disorder

I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type. It is still unclear to me and my psychologist whether im bipolar type 1 or schizoaffective, but it doesn't matter to me because treatment is the same for both.

@Zest : I get in depressed states where I don't want to leave my bed ever and I could get in manic states where I feel like I just flat out don't need sleep. When I'm in either of these states I'm debilitated, however for the first time that I could remember I'm now in between and feel like I'm getting a normal amount of sleep and I feel like actually getting out of bed in the morning. I attribute this to meds, one on one therapy, writing, and group therapy.

I get sleep disturbances a lot. If I am asleep finally, it is best not to wake me because otherwise I find it hard to sleep at the best of times. I can lie awake for hours on end and sometimes don't even go to bed at all.

Other times all I do is sleep. Go figure?

Re: Schizoaffective disorder

Hello Ive just joined this forum. I have had SAD for 15 years but in the last 7 years it has become more of a problem. Im looking for advise on how to live with odd beliefs about this world, this is really more of a curiosity that I cant turn off. For example I dont have concrete beliefs due to my illness, rather an endless facsination about experiences Ive had in acute illness. But Im beginning to realise that I may never be satisfied with what my mind comes up with trying to understand particular experiences. Hopefully I may get the chance to talk to others like myself on this forum. I also have found many coping strategies that may be useful to anyone here. Thanks
