I’m stuck

I’m stuck

20 years running big company departments, raising 4 kids and constantly being on the go. Now I’ve battled depression, emotional blunting, anxiety, panic attacks, a nervous breakdown. All this came after a home invasion and then spinal surgery. I can’t get back on my feet. Paying bills is a hard days work.
I don’t like where I live, I’m single and get very lonely (online dating is torture) and haven’t been able to get a job since lockdowns ended my consulting business. I feel like I’m living behind a sheet of glass - can’t feel properly at all. It’s been 6 years. I’ve given up on doctors and counselors. I’m quite sick of myself tbh.
Has anyone had any medication or treatments that really helped them take a bit of a jump forward?

Welcome, @ElleAgain .

I'm sorry to hear about the situation you find yourself in.

We're not allowed to mention the names of specific medications or treatments, only in general terms. I know that the first step to turning myself around was when someone gave me some multi-vitamins. This was after 3 years in bed with a nervous breakdown. Then my new psychiatrist swopped me to a stronger anti-depressant. I've also had many years of talk therapy with a psychologist, which has given me some healing regarding my childhood (actually lifelong) abuse, and taken away my SI and SH (suicidal ideation and self harm). The stronger meds helped with the SI and SH too.

Please don't give up on doctors and counsellors. It took me 18 years to find an excellent psychologist that I clicked with, and it was worth the wait. Just to live without SI and SH is amazing (I haven't experienced either for 16 years now, after having them all my life previously - I'm 52 now).

An important forum tip is if you type @ and then click on a name in the drop-down box, that person will get a notification and won't miss your reply.

I hope things turn around for you very soon... 🤞

@NatureLover

Thanks so much for your message. I literally don’t know what to try next. Everything just seems so hard atm. I push myself to do things and end up laying down with migraine.
im so tired of feeling disconnected. I was always so driven and positive. I’m so frustrated with myself.

I'm sorry to hear, @ElleAgain . It's hard when you are a high achiever to accept ill health. I was never a high achiever, but have friends who were, before their world came crashing down.

I'm wondering if you could google support groups, maybe on Facebook?

I'm also wondering if you could google ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy? You said you'd given up on counsellors so maybe you wouldn't be interested. All I know is that once I accepted my 6 MIs (mental illnesses), I found them easier to deal with and manage.

Sending you best wishes...
