Does it get better? (T.W. S.A.)

Does it get better? (T.W. S.A.)

Any insights would be appreciated? Or just someone to talk to.

>Rough session with psychologist today.

>Grappling with the fact my ex-boyfriend S.A'd me and was in D.V. situation.

>First gay relationship,

>Mental health was poor at the time. Was using heavily

>Feel knots in my stomach. Feel like I want to cry but boys don't cry. 😂

Has anyone here healed from this stuff successfully or am I going to feel broken for good?

💜

Sounds rough @Cactus1 . I'm sorry to hear today has been another rough day.

I hope some community members will be able to share their experiences and insights into some of what you have posted.

I have to say I like the picture you posted 🙂 It's very warm.

Hi @Cactus1

Of course it gets better. Sorry to hear about your relationship. That sucks. It's so bad to be involved in an abusive relationship.

I'm sorry to hear about your substance abuse. That really will not help you. It may feel like it does but it is an illusion. Your problems are still there and maybe even worse when you straighten up.

Take care. Try writing stuff down. I kept a journal for years and that certainly helped for quite a while. Puts it out there so to speak. It'll get better for sure. Have faith that it will.

Re: Does it get better? (T.W. S.A.)

@Cactus1 Yes it does get better in very small doses. This is what I have learned in 9 months:

Your current environment is a very important factor. - I needed safety and peace.

Don’t be brave by suffering, you cannot snap out of depression and or anxiety. If you need medication tell your GP. - I was so depressed and anxious I couldn’t leave my room.

Educate yourself about your condition - Neurobiology & Psychology

People - acquaintances, friends and family who have NOT dealt with their own trauma cannot give you what they don’t have. They will react in a variety of ways, none of which you need.

Challenges:
Finding a gp, counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist that actively listens and has stayed up to date in their field of expertise and hopefully matches your needs.

I saw 4 counsellors while I was in a narcissist relationship. None of them identified the abuse.

I hope this helps

@Glisten Thank you for the insight, especially the point about friends. Trying to speak about it sometimes brought out displaced anger in me and others. Makes sense.

I have a pretty good psychologist but theres just so much to unpack. There's ~ten years in and out of the mental health system, addiction, abuse and homelessness.

I'm considering going to NA just for an extra support (Just hesitant about religous types when i'm queer)

I'm praying I can access NDIS or DSP to help cover the cost of therapy. 😑😑

@Cactus1 Big hugs 10 years of pain, fear and hating yourself 😭

How do you eat an elephant? One mouthful at a time.

Cheap flight to an overseas Buddhist retreat? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t think sexuality is a thing with them?

Many Australian Buddhist temples do free meditation.

Sometimes you got to think outside the square. More hugs 🤗

Yes. I’ve been suffering depression and anxiety since my 20s. I’ve been in therapy since my 40s. I’m 65 now and still have bouts of depression but it doesn’t last long. I’ve learned various techniques to pull myself out of it. Plus my medication has been sorted. Took a long while but I’m better now than I ever have been.
