How to Manage and get on top of my Eating Disorder?

How to Manage and get on top of my Eating Disorder?

I have had anorexia for almost 5 years now. I have never seen a professional or a mental health service about my issues. My mother never believed in it, so she decided to take it under her wing to try and 'fix' me. her only force of action was feeding me food and threating to send me away, not getting to the issue of why i developed it in the first place. I have moved out of my families house this year and it started getting better and easier to eat. I have fallen into another depression and my eating is getting back to my old habits and i`m scared its going to over power me this time.

Hi @NightDawn1468.

Welcome to the forums.

I hear how difficult it is to have an ED and not be treated.

Im sorry you are in a depression right now and you a falling back in unhelpful habits.

Have you considered going to see a GP? Now that you live away from your mum it may be easier for you. I do get how hard it is to face. But they may be able to support you and help you through this difficult time. They may be able to get you into supports that may help.

I have been told by outside family members about going to a GP for this.

I don`t enough money to be able to afford to see a GP or the support after that appointment

or even a car to get to and from appointments,

going to a GP has been something i have tried to get into but life keeps bringing something else up.

idk if that really makes sense

Hey @NightDawn1468 ,

I'm sorry to hear this. Are you able to see bulk billing GP? Even if you have to wait a little? Otherwise, a telehealth appointment?

You deserve to get the support you need. It so important that you can reach out to someone to talk about it.

Have you ever contacted the Butterfly Foundation? https://butterfly.org.au/ There is a wealth of information available there and also people you can speak to about your eating disorder. That's probably a good place to start?

Hi @NightDawn1468 just wanted to say hi and welcome. I hope that by reaching out you find some support.

I’ve had atypical anorexia for about 3 yrs and am so very thankful for the supportive (mostly) team that I have managed to build around me.

I would definitely give the butterfly foundation a try. They are great at listening, validation and they have a wealth of resources also.

Then finding a good gp would be really important. I know that can be really difficult! And cost is a factor for you. But perhaps calling around and trying to find a bulk billing one would certainly be worth it. Once there, you can look at getting an eating disorder support plan, better than your usual mental health care plan, as it will get your more psychological support appointments per year, I think it’s 40 and then 20 dietitian appointments, (not free, but cheaper).

My food and oral intake is the first thing to suffer when I start to spiral. So I can understand. EDs are so complex and I’m sure your mum thought she was doing the right thing by you by making you eat. But we know it’s far more than ‘just eat’.

wishing you well and I’m always just a tag away if you want to talk. I created a safe place a while ago if you ever wanna stop by The Butterfly Room- ED support
