Welcome and getting started

Is Depression, Anxiety really curable.

Is Depression, Anxiety really curable.

Deep Breath !!!!

Depression, anxiety, sadness and loneliness has troubled me since I was about 15. I am now 65.

I have disliked myself since I was a teen. First child at 18 and he has been a heroin addict, criminal since aged 14, now in 40's and still can't get off Methadone, caused huge trauma within our family. he will never to be healed. He has five children to three different women, two mothers were addicts and seemed to get away with stealing and selling etc. Two of those children I have not seen since babies, one being in their 20's now. I have four other grand kids in their mid 20's and three who are much younger. We helped four of those grand kids during their life as the did not have a father figure. In the mean time I am trying all different antidepressants to cure myself through this miserable life. Now my 42 year old daughter has an ice addiction. I am totally traumatised by all this, my mental state and stress on my body is agonising. Last Psychiatrist tried me on so many meds including T.M.S. nothing works. Then she retired. They say I don't suffer the disease of depression. I am Melancholy. Rang Doctor in an absolute mess and now going to see a Psychotherapist. I am 65 for goodness sake and my body is going through so much adrenaline pain where I just seem to collapse with such weakness in my body and severe nausea. I have even seen three of my grand kids go through what they call party drugs, one ending up in hospital. How the hell am I to be cured of such sadness, depression hiding in my bed all day. I now have a deep anger inside me now due to all of this and am scared it is going to bring some nasty uncontrollable outburst from me.

From what I have witnessed over the past 30 years drugs are the evil devil that kills.

Re: Is Depression, Anxiety really curable.

Hey there @Rollon ,

Thank you for your open and honest post.

To answer the title, Is Depression, Anxiety really curable? Yes. That's my life story.

I tried so many different antidepressants. My life was miserable. I was miserable. The more I wanted to climb out of the misery, the deeper I sunk.

I'm sorry to hear that life has really wrung all the energy out of you. It sounds like things have been very difficult indeed, and children have been brought into it through no fault of their own.

I hear you want something to change. You are doing what you can for things to be different.

As soon as I read your post, you know what stuck out? In my mind, I was thinking, Are YOU going to be the one to make a difference in your household? Are YOU going to be the one to save others going down the same path?

I might be thinking way off reality, but my heart is burning for a difference to be made.

For me, I want to help others stay away from the harmful effects of drugs (as you mentioned).

You are the one to begin the change. I somehow feel that you can and will do it.

I'd be interested to hear how you go with the psychotherapist.

Please take care.

Re: Is Depression, Anxiety really curable.

Hi @Rollon . Welcome to the forums! 🙂

To answer your overall question, I believe that the causes of depression and anxiety are often curable, if you can find someone who is willing to help (which is very difficult, I've found).

In your case, that might be a lot trickier, because the source of your depression is apparently the state of other peoples' lives; people who, I get the impression, you want to maintain contact with?

I have no personal experiance with addiction. My understanding is that "getting clean" can be a physically painful and arduous process. And then, even if your addicted relatives could be persuaded to make this difficult journey, would there be anything worthwhile waiting for them at the end of it? What help do they need to find a life that is better then drugs?

I only ponder these questions because it sounds like the cure for your depression is to cure theirs.

But I'm afraid I can't offer any real answers; in part because I don't think I fully understand the problem.
