Work boundaries/anxiety

Work boundaries/anxiety

Hi friends,

I'm looking for some support with work-related anxiety. Am currently off on annual leave for a week (booked weeks in advance) but I work for a small business and with one of our team members off sick this week as well, I know it's going to be tough on my boss covering everything. I'm trying to remind myself that it's outside of my control and I still deserve to take leave, but I'm finding it incredibly hard to relax and I feel like I should just cancel my leave (even though I know that won't help in the long run). My anxiety has not been this bad in a long time. I've got a plan to see my GP and psych for more support, but today I just feel overwhelmed by it all

Hi @bk14

If you are looking for support then you have come to the right place.

It sounds like you are really devoted to your job. It is hard to switch off sometimes.

Have you got any things that you have planned to do in your time off?

It's good to hear that you have some professional support to help you too.

Please feel free to jump in on any conversation you feel comfortable to.

Hope you have a good day

Snowie xoxo

Thanks @Snowie 🙂

The leave is mainly to help my brother and his wife, who have just had a baby. But I'm planning to do some things for myself, too. Work has been overall stressful lately, so I'm glad for the opportunity to switch off for a bit. I'm just hoping I don't end up spending the whole time stressed about what my absence means for the rest of the team

Thats so nice that you have taken some time off to help your brother and his wife. I am sure that they appreciate the help @bk14

It is hard to turn off from work at times, especially when we are so invested in it.

I'm glad to hear you have some things planned for yourself. Hopefully they help in switching of from work.

Just remember that we work to live but we dont live to work...you deserve a break and even if everything goes awry when you are away, you need to take time out to rest and recover, and whatever happens, you can help deal with it after your break is over...and perhaps your contribution will be more appreciated in your absence.

@bk14 never feel guilty about taking time off. Devotion to the job is admirable but rarely reciprocated these days. Fundamentally, maintaining adequate staffing availability is the business’s problem not yours. You told them ahead of time about your plan, the recent sickness of someone else is unfortunate but the business will cope.

Taking time off for helping family is particularly admirable and important. It reminds me of the “Five balls of life” speech:

Thank you @nervouswreck , that is very true! I hadn't heard of the five balls of life before, I really like that 🙂
