My family told me suffering depression and anxiety is just an excuse.

My family told me suffering depression and anxiety is just an excuse.

I had a huge fight with my x and two of my teenagers. I feel that I've gotten to the point where I don't think I can see them because they just upset me and make me feel like crap. I can fight depression and anxiety but it's so hard when they treat me as superfluous. I was and am I very good mum and understand they are teenagers and find it easier living with their dad but I just can't take the rejection anymore.

Hi @esprit

That sounds like a really tough time for you lately, I can only imagine how much you are hurting right now.

You mentioned the option of not seeing them as they make you upset and you can't bare the rejection, have you been able to talk to them about how they are making you feel at all? If you feel like not seeing them would help you feel better than that is something you could try, looking after yourself is most important right now. Maybe you could write a list of the pro's and con's of this option?

Also, do you have any support for yourself right now, such as friends you can talk to or a counsellor that can help you manage through these feelings of being upset when you see them as well as this feeling of rejection?

Hope you are taking care of yourself, keep reminding yourself that you are a good mum 🙂

@esprit. Sorry you're feeling this way. Sounds like your family dont really understand what its like to live with MI, and for that they should be very grateful. Look after yourself first and focus on all your positive traits. Hugs to you. LT.

Sorry @esprit that your kids are doing this to you. Mine were encouraged to stand against me too.

Sometimes it seems the last century made a right out of teenage rebellion, making it bigger than it needed to be.

Individuation and rites of passage are actually very different concepts than rebellion and rejection.

I have found it refreshing to meet other teens who were generally respectful and decent.

Look after yourself and try not to accept substandard behaviour as "normal".

Thanks guys. I had a girl have a go at me at work saying I was rude to her. Wasn't my intention she was being bossy. I feel it's hard sometimes to put on a happy face when your feeling crap. I feel very flat now. Not good. Hopefully it will all blow over but getting tired I know you all know what I mean.

Hi @esprit, don't give up, its time to start putting yourself first, self care moments throughout the ray and you'll become strong. Teenages can be so hard, and ud youre permenapausal at the same time like i was, it seems impoasible to contain emotions. They've taken you for granted but you're gonna show them that you value yourself. I'm not saying to start arguing with them, just start not needing them so much. Find a common interest group or two, go for walks, love your pet, sit and read in the yard for 2hrs and don't get up to them unless the house is on fire lol. Turn the kitchen into a real 'mummy' girl space, for you.
