And it should do the opposite of isolating you from everyone, @adkar. I wish I could make all your suffering go away, but I can only send you my best wishes and a hope for brighter days ahead.💖

I agree @adkar

It is lonely

Others just don't understand

Re: Living after dearh

I can't help but wonder if it only reveals the massive rift that was always there to begin with. Like what comes before is just a pantomime, where the people around us have a fake relationship with the character they imagine us to be - this fictional character who is incapable of contemplating suicide. But then, when we reveal who we truly are, the illusion is broken, and they have to face up to the fact that the real us is a person they never wanted anything to do with in the first place.

Re: Living after dearh

Oh this is so true.

I remember waking up in icu after a number of attempts and how incredibly alone I felt. I was desperate for someone to come and talk with me or even just sit. But there was no one. ICU is a busy place. I remember one nurse I had. He was so incredibly kind. I was so scared. (I think it’s a service/ role that is lacking in our hospital system. A peer role to go and speak with, listen to and be there for those that survivor an attempt especially, but also just to be around in the emergency room also. To help advocate for patients, listen, sit with, while they are waiting to be seen by mental health. )

Then even when you get discharged. It’s still lonely. People don’t understand.

I participated in a support group run by lifeline called Eclipse. It was for survivors of an attempt. I did that group a couple of years ago. I think I’d probably benefit from it more now after my lethal attempts last year.

Hi @adkar

Welcome to the forums 💛 Thank you for sharing this with us. I want to give lots of virtual hugs to the lonely part of you.

I wanted to share some resources with you that are available and that I myself have also tried.

Peer support based Suicide prevention resources.

Alternatives to Suicide peer groups & Alternative to Emergency Department drop in services:

  • The peer support groups under the ‘Alternatives to Suicide’ offer a regular group time to talk about experiences of suicide with people who have that lived experience themselves. This support group which is Australia-wide through zoom - so you can access it online.
https://alt2su-nsw.net/support-groups/

  • The drop in services ‘Safe Haven' are a physical space around NSW that people with experiences of distress & thoughts of suicide can seek support in instead of going to the emergency department. The service is staffed with people who have had their own lived experience of SI & can provide peer support. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/towardszerosuicides/Pages/safe-haven.aspx
Each site will have different hours of operation so please contact them for additional information.

I am sending lots of light to you as you navigate these feelings, please continue to reach out. You don't deserve to go through this alone.

Re: Living after dearh

@adkar, this morning I felt at my lowest and didn't feel that I could keep going, yet this afternoon I have rallied considerably. Perhaps life is like that, and it may be an important lesson—that life can be insufferable sometimes, but we can persevere. You have this forum to reach out to if you feel in great need, and there is no need to feel that you should feel anything negative about yourself. You were suffering and it was unbearable. Others are the ones who are unworthy of a badge of honour.

I hope you are finding your feet again, taking it slowly and reassessing your life—how you can make it a life worth living. I hope you're doing better today, @adkar. I wish you well.

Re: Living after dearh

I hear you @adkar It’s very isolating. I had support from a service called The Way Back for 12 weeks but when that stopped I was very lost and alone.

I’m here to support you.
