GEtting back to who I am

GEtting back to who I am

Many of you have been following my journey on the forums over these years.

I want to say thanks.

I also want to try to post more reflective things here. This is why I have called this thread "getting back to who I am". It needs to become a reflective exercise. I think it'll be good. It'll be an outlet, one where I can create again. Like I used to.

I am finding that I need that creativity too. So here is the best chance to do so.

Wanted to post this video too - I came across it a while ago. By a while I mean years. I found it when I was in a spot of bother in my life. Listening to it now I have realised that no matter what happens, you'll find that there are things on the journey that throw you about and you wind up somewhere that's different to what you expected but at its base, at its root, it is still the same thing you wanted initially. It's just that it looks different

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNl916LJSY8

The video is great. Like this little girl, who has the postcode of her destination... I once had a postcard of a destination and now I have arrived at the station. What I expected is very different. But it's still, at the basic level, the same. Maybe that is all that matters in the end.

I'm over tormeting myself with hypothetical situations that "may" happen. Even situations that have no proof or evidence of having any chance of occuring. IT could just be that I have had to adapt to seeing horrible things at work on a daily basis. It can screw with me. Fortunately they have a vicarious trauma course that I was signed on to and that will be taking place next week.

Somehow all the ducks are in a row and it feels weird. I guess I grew used to not having my ducks in a row?

I'm more accepting of things. Largely because I've put in the effort to make things work for me. I guess now, I'm benefitting from it and it's weird. At times I just have moments where I think it all doesn't make sense and/or something bad will happen. I continually need to remind myself that even IF something bad happened/happens then it's not as bad as soome of the horrible things I see happen all over the world. The best response to this is gratitude.

But also to find stories of everyday heroism. Stories that remind me of the willpower of people to go on despite adverse circumstances.

I have tried to write to myself as if I were my own therapist (an exercise I call self therapy haha) but sometimes I just get lost in my things. I haven't seen my psych for a while because I find that I'm a different person now. Not a bad thing, but a challenge that represents itself I guess. Therapy has helped, but I think now I may just need to visit my p doc every three months and do some psychoanalysis.

What is it normal people do these days anyway?

Love is hard too, but it feels worthwhile despite its hardness.

Re: GEtting back to who I am

Hi @TAB

Those heaters - they are not easy to start using - I believe they would be great once we figure them out.

I had fun with one of those when I was in Cradle Mountain - 30 years ago - hard to believe now - where did that time go and how come I remember it so well. It was heavy snow and icy cold - I had to get the ranger in several times to restart my heater - tricky things.

All the best with it - and best wishes

Owlunar

Cheers @Owlunar

Yeah like just now I had the sh*ts with work

Spoke to folks and sister. And partner.

Not a solution to the stupid problems but at least we got to air our grievances.

Some of the time that helps a lot.

Re: GEtting back to who I am

Hit a bit of a snag

Work has got me downtrodden.

On the one hand I am bored out of my mind at work because they've taken a good deal of our duties away from us and what we do now is basically something a computer could do.
Most of the analytical work we could do is on the shelf. Who has responsibility for it from here on out is anyone's guess.

But on the other hand, I'm getting paid a certain amount of money for something relatively simple. So why am I whining?

Well to be honest, I have had qualms about this company on a few occasions. There is a very top down decision making process.

It seems like there is now an opportunity to "Advocate" for our jobs/duties. It's just a question of whether or not I need to do that because i don't even know if I feel valued enough by the upper echolons.

I guess this is all part and parcel of the experience though right?

Either way, time to switch some parts of me off.

Can sleep on it maybe haha

Re: GEtting back to who I am

What you are saying about work is the possibly some other disquiet.

Re read 2nd last sentence.

Whats wrong with job being dumbed down? Not your call.

Wont that make it easier for you to study?

Perhaps concentrate on other things besides work like gym or study

Re: GEtting back to who I am

Hey folks

Just did gym . Getting coffee now.

Lots of things happening up above me. Work is stupid - management are completely useless. Concerns fall on deaf ears, they are stupid. "Oh yes we will look into it".

Not my cup of tea anymore. Making plans to get out next year already. The job itself is very on and off again. One day it'll be crazy. The next it'll be chill. I can't handle that. Thought I could. And I could. But it turns out I can't handle that when management are so useless.

I think I'm realising I have capacities and capa ilities beyond what I thought I had. It's a cool thing to experience. I know that if I don't at least try to move to something else then I'll decay. I can't have that. That's a fear that's pushing Mr. The thing that's pulling me? Challenge but also meaning in what I do. If it comes to it, then I'll take any Jon I need to. But I'm not about to give up on myself.

My partner is supportive but fights her own battles. As do I. I think this is what makes our relationship good and one of mutual understanding.

I think doing shift work has taught me a lot. I've learned how far I can push myself. The fact I can do it now with no hesitation is a sign of just how far I've come. I remember how bad it was at the start. admittedly I kept a lot of that under wraps to myself and didn't post here much. guess I just didn't have time.

the beauty of my situation now is that I've mastered yet another thing that I was somehow irrationally convinced that I couldn't do. so I've done 2 things - proven my own self doubt wrong while simultaneously learning/building a skillset or knowledge base of my own abilities.

so where to from here ?

well I've met my partners sister back in her home country. we spoke on face time last week. her sister is cool. her mum and dad now know of me too. the 2 moments were surreal. but I loved it. it isn't just a "oh hey this is bf". it's more than that. her culture is like that, but she doesn't like it. but I guess when you love someone you kind of don't care about culture.

people are coming and going in my life now. but that has always happened.

today I am headed to library to work on an application for a job I feel I can do. I may not have the exact qualifications to make me a strong candidate but I don't care. I will use chatgpt to help me write a cover letter. make sure itsoinds like me ofc. then will come up with a plan to enact for job search throughout my industry. Then I'll watch John verveake. He's a fascinating guy and had a religious crisis in his teens but came back to faith in a way. bit like me

I applied to masters, got in, got a supported place (50% off cost), got credit for previous study, meaning it's even cheaper by about 66%. I was smart and accepted the offer but withdrew my studies. so the supported place is still there. in the end I decided to leave it for now due to the dramatic nonsense at work. wise move.

I realised too that I am unique and I love this. be unique in a world of similarity. the chaos in me will give birth to a dancing star, those who critics me for dancing can't hear the music.... not my problem... to paraphrase nietzche

the worst thing I can be is my worst enemy. the best thing I can be is a friend to myself.

on the scale of juvenile delinquent to high functioning high performing individual I fall on the latter.
