GEtting back to who I am

GEtting back to who I am

Many of you have been following my journey on the forums over these years.

I want to say thanks.

I also want to try to post more reflective things here. This is why I have called this thread "getting back to who I am". It needs to become a reflective exercise. I think it'll be good. It'll be an outlet, one where I can create again. Like I used to.

I am finding that I need that creativity too. So here is the best chance to do so.

Wanted to post this video too - I came across it a while ago. By a while I mean years. I found it when I was in a spot of bother in my life. Listening to it now I have realised that no matter what happens, you'll find that there are things on the journey that throw you about and you wind up somewhere that's different to what you expected but at its base, at its root, it is still the same thing you wanted initially. It's just that it looks different

The video is great. Like this little girl, who has the postcode of her destination... I once had a postcard of a destination and now I have arrived at the station. What I expected is very different. But it's still, at the basic level, the same. Maybe that is all that matters in the end.

I'm over tormeting myself with hypothetical situations that "may" happen. Even situations that have no proof or evidence of having any chance of occuring. IT could just be that I have had to adapt to seeing horrible things at work on a daily basis. It can screw with me. Fortunately they have a vicarious trauma course that I was signed on to and that will be taking place next week.

Somehow all the ducks are in a row and it feels weird. I guess I grew used to not having my ducks in a row?

I'm more accepting of things. Largely because I've put in the effort to make things work for me. I guess now, I'm benefitting from it and it's weird. At times I just have moments where I think it all doesn't make sense and/or something bad will happen. I continually need to remind myself that even IF something bad happened/happens then it's not as bad as soome of the horrible things I see happen all over the world. The best response to this is gratitude.

But also to find stories of everyday heroism. Stories that remind me of the willpower of people to go on despite adverse circumstances.

I have tried to write to myself as if I were my own therapist (an exercise I call self therapy haha) but sometimes I just get lost in my things. I haven't seen my psych for a while because I find that I'm a different person now. Not a bad thing, but a challenge that represents itself I guess. Therapy has helped, but I think now I may just need to visit my p doc every three months and do some psychoanalysis.

What is it normal people do these days anyway?

Love is hard too, but it feels worthwhile despite its hardness.

Re: GEtting back to who I am

I'm good thanks @oceangirl

Been on a completely different wavelength lately to what I am used to in terms of life. I like it tbh.

I'm a foreigner to my previous self

I do hope you are well

Noticing I'm catching my own flare ups a lot lately

Impressed with myself.

Wrote this yesterday too

dear Hams

it has been a while since we last spoke, so long in fact that I actually forget when it was exactly.
Chronology is key to the point I wish to make you see, for without chronology I wouldn't be able to commend you on the progress you've made.

Once upon a time I remember your despondency and general sense of unease with the world. at the time, you could be forgiven for this given what was around you and the subconscious and unconscious influences on your life. it's so revealing to us after the scales are lifted from our eyes, just how much influence there is behind the thoughts we think, the actions we take and the emotions we feel. if no man is an island, then I'd like to think that at the very least he was an isle - or a series of islands closely nit together. a series of islands so close and yet dispersed enough to recognise the differences between them.

I feel now, more than any other stage in the past, you have found your island. islands are curious things, they emerge out of eons of evolutionary processes and form ecosystems and life cycles of their own right. Now, my dear hams, more than any other time in the past, you know yourself as an island. on that island you have established a system of governance, applied due scepticism to influences outside your island that may drastically alter the course of your island, have engaged in good relations with other islands, and have developed your own system of self reliance.

if you are unaware of what thus extended metaphor really entails then I will spell it out in plain English for you.

You have grown

And by grown I mean to say you have changed as a person.

its hard to articulate exactly what this is and what this looks like - but it is evident to me that it has happened.

I think the best advice I can give you right now is to continue listening to your true self. flee into that solitude of mind and heart and soul that extends to you the hand of the being that is your true self. my dear hams, you are flying and as such you are the only one capable of bringing you down.so I implore you my good friend - do not take yourself out of the sky.

remember that those who fly always seem to small to those who can't fly for the higher and farther we soar , the smaller we appear to those who can't fly

listen now to the music of life - dance and enjoy it thoroughly. Those of us who dance and sing are always considered insane by those who can't hear the music.

Keep going my friend.

Re: GEtting back to who I am

Had a realisation today.

Deep. Very deep.

Gym helped after work. Got thai on way home.

Will be speaking to psych next week via telehealth.

Figured today that this current role is not for me long term. But I've managed it well and I've learned heaps. Mostly about how far I can push myself.

The journey for a new job starts now - but it'll be a slow one. Gonna require planning and concentration but I can do that easy.

Just a matter of focusing.

Have been granted 1 month leave in Nov so I can't leave for another job before then.

But I'll be keeping my eyes out. Had a interview back last week for a role similar to what I do now - just to make the impression. Keep me fresh.

Every step is a learning curve in the end.

Flying Hams is at cruising altitude. But that's okay
