Struggling to get help

Struggling to get help

Hi,
I'm relatively new to all of this.
I was on a plan with a psychologist that my GP set up.
I had my first 6 visits and was due for a reassessment with my GP before I continued with my next lot.
However my GP has now retired so I don't have anyone to do the reassessment.
It's taken me over a month to get an appointment with the psychologist so I'm at my wits end right now and am hanging to get back there and be able to talk with her.
However I can't go back till I have met with my GP.
I've been to a few medical centres and they have said they can't help me or do it because they aren't my GP.
I can't find a GP that can see me in time before my scheduled psychologist appointment and I really don't want to push that appointment back further.
Can anyone suggest something I can do or where I can go to have this reassessment done?

Hi @Rose10

Is there another dr in the practice were you saw your last GP- you ask there for another referal (care plan)

or just go to another practice and ask for a care plan and just explain that your Dr as retired and you have seen the psychologist previously and you need a care plan.

Hope you are able to find someone to help you. Best Wishes

Re: Struggling to get help

Hi @Rose10, welcome to the Forums. Your Psychologist will need to bill you without the new mental health care plan (for permission for the additional sessions) so it would be wise to talk to them first about the situation you're in. Some psychs are willing to do 'pro-bono' work (as in free or low-cost) to tide people over but this is very much an individual decision.

I think that @Former-Member's advice is good in terms of seeing another doctor in the same practice as then your notes will be accessible and it'll be easier to provide the additional sessions. If that appointment is after your next counselling session then please ring the psych and explain. That way you know where you stand with regards to charging for the session.

It's also worth noting that your Psychologist should have written to the doctor updating them on your progress to date and asking for the additional sessions. That record should be at the surgery and so it should make your next appointment with the new GP a little easier.

Let us know how you go.
