Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

Howdy forums fam, it’s your pal Jynx here to start up a new social space specific to folks with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ASD is often marked by unique styles of communication, unique life challenges, and unique perspectives on the world, so I figured it would be awesome to have a space for us to come together to share/chat/support each other!

This space is open to all who identify as autistic, including those who suspect they might be autistic but haven’t gotten a diagnosis, or want to explore the experiences and insights from other autistic folk to understand lived experience of ASD a bit better.

Allistic (non-austistic) members are also welcome, but please do remember to centre the voices of our autistic members and respect their lived experience. We’re not here to debate autism, we’re here to connect in a safe space.

To kick off the conversation I’d like to ask about everyone’s special interests! Mine is D&D – feel free to ask me about it and I’ll talk your ear off!

Please tag anyone you feel would be interested in joining this space!

💜😊👾

@Jynx yes i do know what prompted the meltdown

Hubby has brought a canopy for his ute and he thought he can just have it installed tomorrow but it has not been that easy so hope everything works out when we pick it up

Will try PGC 😁

Thank you @Shaz51 I will keep this ASD Thread in mind too.

I still think it would have been far more helpful to know I had ASD in my teens & 20s

Finding out at age 55 is not so helpful.

I've only disclosed to one person so far Re: Having Autism.

Her response was generalising & minimising: "Everyone has some level of Autism".

Very unhelpful, considering the effort that I went to to disclose that information.

I was expecting or hoping for an empathetic response.

Instead I got a put-down.

Sorry to hear that @Adge .

What does a more empathetic response look like for you?

How are you feeling regarding your diagnosis?

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

Morning @Adge

My husband is the same , and he is 64 and not sure what to do with the new information

His family knows and their response is that it doesn't really matter now does it

As for learning about ASD, I can see it now and in his children too
