Something’s not right

Depression

Depression

I think I’m just burnt out. That or I’m just ready. I’m not depressed like I was as a teenager. When you can’t see colour, when food is tasteless and one thing makes you cry and cry until you can’t anymore. It’s not like that. I have a home, a dog, a boyfriend, a great job, I shouldn’t be sad. I see the world in colour, but I feel empty. I’ve been trying to get my degree since I graduated 5 years ago but there’s always something. My mental health, Covid, homelessness, teacher issues, now money because my once free course, now costs thousands upfront. It’s not that I want to die. But maybe it’s time. I can’t afford to see a therapist, nor pay my outstanding school fees or anything other than rent really. I feel I’m just a shell and I have a good life so as long as I get things in order and ready, life can go on without me.

Re: Depression

About that idea of having a good life and still being depressed… I mean this is only my opinion from what I understand, but I take it that Depression doesn’t go away. The best you can do is manage it, so some days it’s only a very, very small part of your life and you have unusually dark thoughts from time to time but you’re able to manage them and move on quick. Other times, you feel like you are now. But it doesn’t matter how good your life is at the time, if you need help, you need help. I have Depression. I can win the lottery tomorrow. I can be a CEO in five years time, I could have a wife and kids, but I will still have Depression and I will still need and deserve help for it. I remember hearing a therapist say that even the clients who are worst-off always say that someone else is worse off and they shouldn’t get help because the world can go on without them. They say that because they have been told that, or they’ve been telling themselves that, not because it’s true.

I would just encourage you to keep an open mind and say that Depression is Depression, whether you “should” feel that way or not. @Mikismyname .
