Something’s not right

Everything is annoying.

Everything is annoying.

Happy Friday 😊. Work is annoying me a little bit.

I have an appointment with a counselor on Monday at 9:00AM, but I haven’t told my manager yet.

I might just cancel it. I have been late to work a couple of times and I don’t know if he would be happy with me announcing that I have to take a lot of time off because I’m getting mental health treatment.

Yesterday, I took the bus to work. There was an accident on the motorway earlier that morning, so the motorway was very busy. I looked it up and saw the warning on the official traffic alert website. I took a screenshot and let my manager know I was going to be late. He didn’t reply, but he didn’t mention it.

This morning, he messaged me and said:

How did you go getting into work on time this morning?

I said yeah, good, I got here at 8:45AM.

He said perfect! How are you going on those e-mails? I have been processing a lot of e-mails recently, because they have to clean up their inbox at the end of financial year. I’ve been working for four weeks and I haven’t taken a single call yet LOL.

I don’t know why I got a little annoyed by that. He’s literally just asking me what time I came in, it’s a small thing. I guess because he’s following up on me being late yesterday. But being late yesterday wasn’t my fault. There was an accident, it happens. I mean I could check the alerts before I leave, but still.

You know what else is a little annoying? When there’s a car accident and they say on the news, “three people died and four others were injured, and the incident caused traffic chaos”. Who the […] cares about the traffic, someone just lost their life? You have to stay in your car for an hour, so what?

And as a matter of fact, you know what else is a little annoying? When there’s a major crime and the witnesses say “it’s so surprising to see this sort of thing, it’s a very quiet area.” WHAT THE […]? Crime can happen in any area. Especially murder, domestic violence, it happens behind closed doors. Domestic violence can happen in any area where there are relationships. It’s not a geographical issue. It’s the most ridiculous comment and you see it every time.

That’s sort of what my mental health has been like. Just being annoyed by the smallest things.

I don’t think there’s any way other than going to my appointment on Monday. And going to my paid psychologists’ meetings as well. It’s kinda too important. That said, I don’t want to get fired LOL.

Have you had trouble getting up for work early in the morning? Why is it hard and how do you adjust?

I have found that putting my alarm clock away from the bed helps. But my God, to get ready for work, I have to get up at 6:00AM. I need to leave the house earlier, I leave at 7:30. In the middle of winter especially, I’m not a morning person. I LOVE this song.

I’m glad for the weekend. I admit, it’s a great feeling coming home on Friday night and having your baby niece and eight-year-old nephew come up to you for hugs.

I hope you guys have a lovely weekend, and I’m wishing you free-flowing traffic, but peace when a car accident causes a traffic jam. Trust me, there are much worse fates in life than a traffic jam…

Hi @florencefifty 😊 :smiling_face_with_smiling eyes

I know a thing or two on what seems like to me being misunderstood at work when arriving late?

Gah.. I was arriving late to work a lot of the time in my previous work.. sometimes not my fault sometimes my "fault".. I ended up needing adjustments for the mornings due to my psychosocial disability.

I wanted to share this with you https://www.ourcommunity.com.au/files/MadWorkplaces-ForConsumers.pdf

I wondered if it would resonate with some things on your plate with needing time for mental health treatment but also wanting to go to work.

Let me know! 🙂 :slightly_smiling_face

Thanks for the morning song!

Sending you gentle vibes as you relax with your niece and nephew!

Re: Working title.

hi florence I hope you are well, sending good vibes your way. I texted an acquaintance of my deceased parents asking if the tradesperson who he used 2 weeks ago was any good. I dont text him often but since mum died last month, we got in touch again. He replied with "what do you want". I was taken aback, I did stare at his text for a bit, and texted back "just looking for a gardener/handyman". He has not texted back. I know he has bipolar so I will not take it to heart. I just lost my mum so everything is raw right now. I have been in tears all day. Its is starting to hit me.

It sounds like a corporate workplace you are in. It is so hard when you are not feeling ok mentally.

Its like what our healthcare workers say on twitter, they are having such a hard time (with covid infections, pandemic, and are buckling under the strain, and they say "just be kind (to us)". But there is no capacity for that in corporate workplaces. I ended up in one of those at age 18 while I was trying to escape a domestic violence situation. To be confronted by those microagressions does not help. Just make sure you have adequate support and keep updating your resume every month or so. That way if the red flags get too common you can apply for more interviews and have one foot out the door so to speak.

Hi @scruffypuffball ,

I'm sorry to hear what happened when you sent that text message today. It is understandable that you were taken aback by the response.

How are you feeling about it now?

Re: Working title.

thanks for the reply. I moved his number to the "F" section in my phone contact list. I tend to do that with people that look as if my association with them has run its course. That way if I am tempted to text him again it reminds me not to and to keep a safe distance. I normally text this guy like once a year so he probably thought I was being needy. They reach out to you when chips are down but it is not necessarily an invitation for a friendship you know what I mean. That is how I take it.

His SIL did mention his bipolar diagnosis years ago and she mentioned he had attitude problems so I guess I am not the only one. Also he sold dad an aircon unit like 15 years ago. It fell off the back of the truck and had a big dent so he sold it to dad on the cheap. We were conversing one day like 10 years ago, and he said "how is the aircon unit?" I said it is ok. He laughted in a mocking tone. My intuition at the time went: hmmmm. So he has form

Re: Working title.

I like your attitude towards this whole thing @scruffypuffball . It mustn't have been easy to receive that msg, yet you are able to reflect on it and know it's nothing you have done.

If his name goes to "F", go for it. I wouldn't probably disappeared it from my phone lol "Whoops!"

I totally and 100 percent empathize and agree with what your saying , also please prioritize your mental health, hope you have a safe and lovely weekend sounds nice having cuddles from family when you got home from work, and yes inconnvenvience of traffic jams is far less than those drivers and passengers where dealt with ,also not forgetting their poor families ,people should, must and do come first after all

Re: Everything is annoying.

@tymei am ok, i am processing my emotions this week. i refuse to call it "depression" as i think what i am feeling and expressing is normal. I dont want to get into the habit of thinking there is something wrong with me. I texted an old friend and will have a chat with her tonight so looking forward to that.

Sending you blessings
