Auditory Hallucinations

Auditory Hallucinations

Hi There,

I suffer from Psychosis. I’m still waiting to see if I get a proper diagnosis, it might be schizophrenia but not sure yet.
I’m hearing voices all the time and the voices that I can hear can hear my thoughts and they know what I’m thinking.
The thoughts that I have are intrusive thoughts. They’re unwanted, extremely unpleasant thoughts.

Does anyone else suffer from this?

The voices I hear criticise me but sometimes they are helpful and they say they want to help me.

It’s really my messed up thoughts that I get inside my head that bother me and it creates anxiety and stress for me because I don’t want to have these awful thoughts. I just want it to go away 😞

It’s interfering with my life! I can’t go out and enjoy myself anymore and I’ve lost my job because of this. I’ve tried to work at my job but I struggled soo much and I couldn’t do it anymore.

Hi @Ballard1891

A lot happening.

A lot of mixed messages

I am not experienced in this but wanted to say hello.

I hope you can find something you can focus on. Like a movie. A book. Solitaire. Something that your mind can see as a straight path. Tell the other thought you do not want to be disturbed. Tell the other thought to go away because you are watching a movie.

I am going to bed soon so see you later

@Ballard1891 hi i experience those things it can be really stressful and exhausting and upsetting. some people find medication helpful others dont it is something to consider, otherwise distraction is a good option i find listening to music helps block out the voices but everyone is different. i hope you find something that helps but you are not alone.

Hi @Former-Member

Thanks for your message.
Thanks for your helpful ideas 🙂

It’s very strange. When I watch t.v it makes the symptoms worse. It’s like the voices are coming through the t.v aswell. I can’t turn the volume on the t.v. I’ve been watching it on mute. It’s no fun. I would love to watch a movie and enjoy it but I can’t 😞

I find reading, writing and texting people helps as it distracts me from my thoughts…

I haven’t tried solitaire, that’s a good idea but I’ve been playing board games with people and that also helps distract me.

Hi @Ballard1891

Solitaire is good because you can do it anytime.

With TV. I understand. I relied on gospel music for many years. Only trying radio now, and no talk back. Talk back is too "noisy"

Glad books work for you. I never could focus on one page so forgot what l read.

Maybe Enjoy the silent tv. It is good to sit back sometimes. If that works.

I hope you use this forum like texting to relax.

Remember. Some replies may take awhile. Never take that as personal.

My other goal is a walk around the block. Say hello to nice people. You never get more than half way. Meaning you can turn back at any point you feel awkward

Hi @Eden1919

Thanks for your message.

I’m on medication at the moment to reduce symptoms. It definitely has helped.

Yes I totally agree 🙂 music helps a lot and it’s very distracting especially when you’re playing a song that you like. Signing along to the lyrics help.

Hi @Ballard1891

@Eden1919 ideas are great

When singing to the song, try dancing too!

I haven’t played Solitaire in years. I must get back into it. What a great idea though to do.

Yeah I can only handle music when I’m listening to the radio. When they do talk back, I struggle and I start to hear voices.

Every time my husband watches t.v, I can’t sit there next to him. I have to go into the other room and shut the door so I don’t hear it because the sound of the t.v bothers me 😞 it’s very annoying…

Replying to people’s messages does help distract me from those annoying thoughts and I do find it relaxing.
Ever since I’ve had psychosis I seem to swear a lot in my head. For example, I’m saying “shut up’’ to things that shouldn’t bother me and I’m starting to swear at things that I shouldn’t be swearing at. It’s very annoying and it’s not who I am.

I don’t know if anyone else experiences this?

I also suffer from depression so that doesn’t help the situation.
Walking and exercise will help definitely with getting rid of those thoughts. I must do that.

Re: Auditory Hallucinations

Hi @Ballard1891

Walking and listening to music as @Eden1919 does is great.

One day, try and dance to it! Let go of all the thoughts.

Even a waltz or sway is fine.

What do you think of this question?

You say : "For example, I’m saying “shut up’’ to things that shouldn’t bother me and I’m starting to swear at things that I shouldn’t be swearing at. It’s very annoying and it’s not who I am"

And you ask if others do it.

My question to you is do you think others say it to themselves?

I suggest you may actually be controlling something others cannot do because some get abusive and shout at others what you contain.

I hear this as an inner strength. Yes I have muttered many a time. But the person never hears it.

So the questions are

(1) My question to you is do you think others say it to themselves (to be quiet etc) ?

(2) Do you think maybe, just maybe you have greater control than you think you have?

You do not have to answer here. You can answer in your head. But you are welcome to answer here if you will not regret it.

I think you’re right, maybe I’m lucky that I don’t say it out loud. Only in my head I say it. Maybe other people out there have it worse than me but it’s still very tough though because it’s something I wouldn’t normally say.
For example, a dog constantly barking or kids screaming very loudly… I say “shut up” to them in my head ( not out loud when I’m around people) but things like that shouldn’t bother me.

Maybe I do have control over it because I’m glad I don’t express what I’m thinking.

Thanks for the chat. I found that very helpful 🙂

Hi @Ballard1891

Woof Woof

No Seriously, until you are around the right (according to me right) people, I think it is hard to understand it is a strength you did not appreciate you have.

I copped a lot of verbal abuse and threats from some people. People used to visit me and I would ignore the abuse. The people I knew told me I was weak. Why don't you shout back.

I did hear it. But I refused to be brainwashed into believing what they were saying about me was true.

My friends kept saying how weak I was. But I knew I had the Power!! and choice how to respond.

I now say it is a bit like them throwing an egg at me. So I throw two at them, they throw three at me, where does it end?

@Ballard1891 I hope you now see, in my opinion, you have the incredible Power to also Contain your thoughts in Your Head.

You hear it. You know it is not a fight worth picking because there is no end.

I hope I have shown your your power Wonder Person!! Kapow!!

There is a lot of Power in Silence!

A lot of Power indeed.
