Winter solstice

Winter solstice

Longest night of the year and the darkness and coldness have really hit. Things seem really bleak. I've been struggling for a long time and was pacing myself to this point but can't see beyond it. I'm safe but despairing. I'm trapped in a vortex of family dysfunction from earliest years and emotional pain, received and (mea culpa) inflicted. I can't help my closest sibling - all others are estranged - and I don't seem able to extricate myself from personal difficulties and dilemmas that at present ďefine me - I have no connections or other identity. I've lost faith in my mh team.

I guess the sun will rise tomorrow, and I'll keep taking one day at a time, but I can't envision a future, my future.

Re: Winter solstice

Of course, I will always do my best to meet you where you're at. @Dimity 💛

I completely understand why anxiety would be so present for you right now.

Routines and rhythms sound like a good idea - is there a gentle flow you could find?

Regarding your answers to my questions... it sounds like you're getting a lot of mixed messages. Not getting responses when you are trying so hard to be supportive and make change would be really upsetting...

I see what you're saying here and why family therapy is of the utmost importance right now. Needing the mental bandwidth to manage all of this is so incredibly fair, and I can imagine, very challenging to muster right now.

Let's keep going slow? One day at a time. 🥰

Re: Winter solstice

@AuntGlow my attempts at negotiating family therapy have crashed and burned and are irredeemable.

It would be good to take one day at a time but I'm only holding space for the present moment. My anxiety depression and stress are extremely severe - as tested. I'd love to find a gentle flow. Mentally and physically I'm at a very low ebb.

Today was a bad day. I'll try to start refinding lost routines and rhythms, or create new ones.

Re: Winter solstice

Sorry to hear you're so low at the moment, @Dimity 😥

I guess there's one salvageable point about losing the opportunity for family therapy - in that I hope you can now pursue your individual therapy.

I hope you are OK - well, that things improve for you 🤞

Re: Winter solstice

Thanks @NatureLover .

I guess I'd hoped to fix things, and to find ways forward for us as a family - or at least for the small number of us in this particular huddle..

Pursuing individual therapy for myself feels lonely and difficult and selfish.

Re: Winter solstice

Oh @Dimity... I am so, so sorry to hear this. I can't even imagine how heartbreaking this must feel.

I know how hard you have been trying to reconcile.

Your flow will come, but for now it sounds like you may just need to feel... and to have as much support as possible.

What can we do to be there for you at the moment? And who can you call upon in your world right now? 💛

Re: Winter solstice

@AuntGlow a couple of people are aware but there's not really anyone I can call on.

I'll just try to push on... survival stuff, getting by. Domestic stuff as there really isn't anything else. My own fault.

There could be trouble ahead as I try to extricate myself from some of the wider ramifications of the problematic family situation.

I see Guided Recovery is being withdrawn. Pity, I'd been considering it after a couple of people suggested it. I'm a bit intimidated by the Recovery Club model.

Re: Winter solstice

Hey @Dimity ,

From what has been communicated, the Recovery Club will be back. This is just to close off intakes so that those in the program can complete it before the end of the year I supposed?

It will be back - bigger and better?

Re: Winter solstice

@tyme I liked the sound of the 1:1 program of Guided Recovery. I'd be nervous of all group work like Recovery Club.

Re: Winter solstice

I don't believe pursuing individual therapy is lonely or selfish, @Dimity .

When I think how angry I was at the world, how damaged and unhealed before my individual therapy, I can see the benefits of it every day. In how I treat myself and others. In how I don't always want to die at all now. In how I can now help others.

Re: Winter solstice

Wow @NatureLover that's powerful. I'm so glad you've come through so strongly.

Thankyou for all of the help you've given me and insights you've shared with me.

And I've seen you overcome many challenges - all with the same psychologist I think. A testament to how successful a partnership with a good therapist can be.
