Re: Tired and can’t be bothered

Hahaha oh man I feel that @ArraDreaming my lil ADHD brain is the same. Lemme try to summarise -

There's seven areas of our life we might find ourselves depleted in, and so seven different ways we might need to rest:

  1. Physical (self-explanatory) - helped by doing very little, e.g. sleeping, napping, or stuff like yoga/stretching
  2. Mental (busy mind, racing thoughts) - helped by taking lots of breaks, and writing down nagging thoughts/venting them to someone
  3. Sensory (becoming sensitive to bright lights and loud noises) - helped by stuff like taking time away from overstimulating environments, getting ear plugs, taking time to shut out all sensory input
  4. Creative (writers or creative mental block, lack of inspiration) - take time to get into nature, appreciate the beauty around you, visit art galleries or museums
  5. Emotional (feeling deflated or defeated, people-pleasing, feeling numb) - take the time to express your feelings, either to a loved one, a therapist, or by journalling
  6. Social (Exhausted by social interactions, feeling drained by people around you, struggling to feel empathy towards others) - helped by taking time away from those who drain your social battery and focus on yourself, or on spending time with people who help you feel revitalised after spending time with them
  7. Spiritual (feeling disconnected, struggling to find meaning or purpose, feelings of emptiness) - helped by connecting on deeper level to important people, or by getting involved in the community through things like volunteering, engaging in spiritual practices (can be religious but don't have to be)

Like I think at the moment I am mentally exhausted... so I might take the time to just play some video games and switch off my brain for a bit after work.

Wow writing that out was kinda helpful for me, so thanks haha. I hope it helps you too 😊

@ArraDreaming 😢

You are in need of respite my friend. I am sorry that you are feeling so overwhelmed with everything that there's nothing left in the tank to put towards even feeling sad. Numbness is a side of mental health issues that isn't really seen or portrayed as much hey. But it's very real and can even be scary sometimes.

I know it might not be an option, but maybe something like... going out camping solo for a weekend? Just to get a break from everything, from the loudness of populated areas, from the demands of daily life. Just spending some time with yourself, exploring somewhere pretty.

Hi @ArraDreaming

I understand - life is pretty full-on for you right now - and having high levels of anxiety strains your whole system - so yes - I would say it's pretty normal to feel flat and numb - it's your whole person trying to recover - I know this for myself - I just have to give myself space.

But then - I live by myself - so I have to attend to everything by myself - and the last few weeks have been full-on - so - living by myself does have a good-side - when I do have a free day I can stay in bed for as long as I want to - take it easy and just be myself - which - luckily - is the person I want to be.

Basically - it comes down to accepting the status quo of your life and that's easier said than done. Taking little chunks of time for yourself now and again might help - and just feel what you feel without bothering about when it's good or bad - rather - it just is -

You have a partner and two young children and - I really found life full-on during those years - you are living through that right now with all the social issues in the media - which we all hear about - and this is tough - totally get that.

Your life with the plants must be restful for you - my gardener came yesterday and tidied my plants and it was a really sunshiny day to go outside and just admire the work that had been done and how green everything is. We need to find some peace in our lives - it seems to me your work provides that.

Stick with it mate - we are here for you and we care a whole lot about you.

@ArraDreaming I just wanted to check in with you today and see how you are feeling? I have felt exhausted mentally and physically too and it can be really draining. I am sitting with you and how you feel today if you need to reach out on the Forums. RiverSeal
