A great day

A great day

Hi everyone @Former-Member @Former-Member@decadian@faith-and-hope@leia@tab@shaz51@sadgirl@pip & anyone I've accidentally forgotten.
Went up to take some more photos of the Aboriginal Water Well today. Found so much more fascinating Aboriginal engineering feats.
Meditated and came home.
Checked my emails and received one saying that this site and the finds haven't been documented on the Aboriginal Heritage Sites database. And have been asked to go up there in about a week to show the Heritage team around.
So excited. Even though some other locals know about the wells and other things I've found. Obviously no one bothered to check with the Heritage group.
So rapt. I get to be a witness to how they go about documenting the whole site. I haven't even explored the full acre site yet.
Just wanted to share.
I hope you have all found something to celebrate tonight. Even if it's just getting out of bed, having a walk, smelling some flowers, or simply breathing through any anxiety.
Love and hugs to you all.
I'll be off site for the rest of the night.
♥♥

Re: A great day

Hello @utopia

it is great that First Nations are finally getting some respect. Glad you enjoyed it.

I had a similar experience last week. We were overlooking a floodplain where traditionally 3 tribes visited and bartered and had ceremonies. Apparently there are over 400 tools on the site, that have been assessed and placed back in situ.

We share another enthusiasm.

Re: A great day

Hi @utopia

I stood for a minute's silence for our Great Fallen on Friday - the 11th of the 11th at 11.00am - and insisted my domestic carer stopped work for that time - and I think she was glad to have me respect that moment myself

I thought back to that day and both my grand-fathers were in France on that date - and they were both in the British Expeditionary Forces in WW1 and neither of my parents was born then. One grandfather was English and one was an Anzac - and I guess I will never know but I wonder often if they ever met each other - totally unaware that they would share grandchildren (3), and great grandchildren (5) and great-great-grandchildren (4) - so far

So yes - I had something to celebrate - my ancestors and my descendents -

@Former-Member @BlueBay @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51. Thanks for your nice words of support.
@Appleblossom. Wow. To see where three tribes met to barter and share stories. Can't you just picture the scene when you were looking at the area?
I often see our old tribe walking through the forest when I head back from the mountain. It's a special feeling to 'see' it.
@Decadian - wouldn't it have been amazing if your two grandfathers met. It's possible. They did often mix and sometimes fight and rest together.
My dad fought in Vietnam - under tge Australian Army. But most if his time was spent working with the 'yanks'. I think it becomes a smaller world, during times of war.
And I like to think that wherever my dads soul is - he can see us all. And he can see my son who was born after his death.
Thanks again everyone. It's nice to be able to share some happy and exciting moments with my forum friends.

Re: A great day

Thanks @utopia

From what one grandfather said and what the other one had in his records that I went to Canberra and the War Memorial to get is that both grandads were in the same theatres - Fromelle, Mons, Pollywood and the Somme - and spent a lot of time in England doing courses as well

I am glad I listened to Grandad when I had the chance - I never met the Anzac - he died young - but I feel I have a heritage too - and serves in the Reserve for a time - just a member of a family with the army in their family history

Not long before he died I asked my Dad if I could have grandad's medals and it was lucky I asked that day for another chance never came - and I have them safe now and in my will to go to a cousin -

I need to go to London to find out about my British Grandfather - the time will come

@Appleblossom

I think what you are doing is wonderful - I will looking into that when I have the time which I hope will be soon - I do pass the Aboriginal Sacred Site near here - there is always an aboriginal flag flying there and there is also a moment to the people whose land this was before we came

There is a series of TV programmes starting this week I think - which could be confronting - it is something I am prepared to confront though

A question - rhetorical of course - is all history confronting?t

On thinking - yes - I think perhaps it is

Re: A great day

@Decadian. Is all history confronting?
I would have to say yes.
But once confronted - it becomes your history too. And I think that is important - especially for non indigenous Australians like me. This way - Australian History - becomes full History. From our first peoples, to our first convicts and free settlers, to all the new migrants that choose to make this country their home.
