Tiredness from medication

Tiredness from medication

how do others manage to fight off the tiredness from medications? i am sleeping around 16-19hours per day and am still exhausted this is obviously not sustainable i need to be able to wake up before 3pm each day and i need to have enough energy to actually do things. i have told my doctors about this and they wont change the meds and do anything to reduce the tiredness they just say it is something i have to live with. i am on a treatment order so i cannot do anything myself... has any one else had a similar problem? how did you manage?

Edit: i am also sleeping the weirdest hours as well which i have tried to shift but i cant seem to make that happen either.

Re: Tiredness from medication

Hello @Eden1919 I was on a CTO and had to take injectable D*****l and I was similarly exhausted even after I came off the injection. I used to wake up at 9am - have several hours to myself then have to crash for 6 hours in bed and was exhausted cooking dinner then sleep from 6pm to 9am. I used to have to split my grocery shopping over consecutive days as it was too exhausting to go shopping. This lasted 8 years. I would get clear on your illness and prove to the mental health board that you can faithfully take your meds and come off this rotten injection in exchange for a better med. You must be up for some kind of legal mental health review. I have been taking my tablets ever since and from that point went across to a free resource which is moderated by health professionals www.curezone.org and did most of the healing protocols and healed myself with the support of others on that forum doing the same thing with their health journeys. I now am strong and physically fit after 8 years of invalidism. I walk an hour a day and lead a good life. Healing is possible and there are better meds out there which aren't as harsh on your system

Mine was a hopeless situation @Eden1919 I could barely do anything on the injection but the website I gave you changed my life after I got off that injectable med. No matter how hard it seems I'm telling you theres hope. There are better meds that are not like the injection and if you follow the curezone website and put your feelers out you can get your life back. I was laid up for 8 years and thought my life had been ruined by psychiatry. Here I am now fit and healthy - almost an impossibility. I could barely cook a meal or look after my house or garden.

Re: Tiredness from medication

It sounds very difficult for you @Eden1919 . I used to sleep 12-14 hours a day and felt sleep deprived during my parttime working week. I continued to sleep long hours - phase shifted - after giving up work.

As @Former-Member said your best bet is probably to work on getting off the CTO.

I'm better than I was. Hard to remember but I think I started by reducing the meds several years ago. Last year I started walking every day and revised my eating plan again, and my psychiatrist agreed to further reduce the meds. For a while I took a hormonal sleep supplement to help shift my sleep pattern. It's not perfect but as I said way better than it was. And I'm healthier and fitter which has probably helped my sleep quality. Being on tablets rather than a depot is probably what made it possible.

My med is a bugger for sedation, weight gain and blood sugar levels but being able to titrate downward and commit to lifestyle changes has made it a bit more bearable.

Re: Tiredness from medication

Sending hugs @Eden1919

I have been on sedating medication previously which really affected my life. I had been working prior but had to take leave from my employment as was too sleepy. I was told that I couldn't change my medication as I had to 'give it a decent trial period' of a few months. The sedation did reduce over time as my body got used to it, but not enough that I could function effectively, so eventually I was taken off it. How long have you been on the medication? I hope that the tiredness does at least reduce for you. I didn't have the complication of a treatment order at the time, so don't have any advice to help with that, sorry.

I have definitely been struggling with the constant exhaustion though for many years. Many people have tried to reassure me that I should just take it easy & focus on getting better, which frustrates me as I have many things I want to do. I am now managing better and being more accepting of the small things I am able to achieve. Those small bits of enjoyment and achievement are more important than what you are not able to do. I surprise myself somedays with what I am able to do, but usually need a few days recovery afterwards doing much less than normal. I hope one day my energy returns - but until then I am able to be mostly accepting of my limited energy budget.

Have you heard of Spoon theory? Understanding spoon theory helped me to be kinder to myself in accepting that it is ok to be low in energy. https://mentalhealthathome.org/2019/01/28/spoon-theory-mental-illness/

That's a great article @CrazyChick and very helpful. Thanks!

Does it resonate @Eden1919? I have more spoons than I used to but yep there's more in the cutlery drawer some days than others.

Re: Tiredness from medication

@Dimity @CrazyChick thanks and yes i have heard of spoon theory it seems like lately i have only had about 1-2 spoons a day which really isnt a lot. i have been on the meds for about 6-7 months now and the tiredness is only getting worse as they recently upped the dose. i am trying my best but it never feels like enough anyway hopefully i can figure something out soon because this is not a good situation.
