Something’s not right

I want to be excited but just don't feel it

I want to be excited but just don't feel it

Im really really nervous and scared about something I should be excited and happy about and it's beginning to affect my mental health but I feel I have to hide how I really feel and act excited like I should

It's hard when you have to pretend to feel a way that you just don't. Why do you feel you have to do that? Why can't you be honest? Will it upset someone if you are?

Hi @Twilightsomniac,

There's nothing wrong with your authentic feelings. There are lot of things in life that can be both exciting and scary at the same time. Some people for instance may be excited yet scared of going overseas, having a baby, starting a new job, etc. I actually think the feelings you describe are pretty common thing for a lot of people. It's more of a concern that it is starting to impact your mental health.

Do you have someone you can speak to that you trust and feel safe with around your feelings? Maybe a good friend, GP, family member? If you would like to speak to someone confidentially you can contact the SANE Support Centre which is available to support you from 10am-10pm Monday to Friday. We have counsellors and peer support workers available to support you via phone (1800 187 263) or webchat.

Warm wishes,
