Noah

Noah

I don't know where to go for help anymore. I'm still waking in the mornings feeling panicked and sad. I tremble. I cry. I hear myself asking 'why?' (and how futile that is). There's hailstones in my head and my mattress moves like a mountainside of mud.

I see 2 counsellors at regular intervals... I see a GP regularly and take meds... I pray... I sometimes see a psychologist... I sometimes see a ghost... But it's like that song says: "I feel just like somebody else. I ain't changed, but I know I aint the same"

Last night I dreamed of some gollum type creature, and I watched him overpower a stranger on a night time street by the beach. The guy put up a great fight, but eventually was cannibalised. And in the kindest way that a dream can allow, I flew above and out of reach. Looking down, i could see human remains strewn along the esplanade; tattered flesh of bent legs and limp wrists snagged on railings... This ravenous demon chased after me, too, but I flew out over the black Sea...

In the story of Noah it tells of a great flood. And as the flood is being built, layer upon layer, day after day of watery slabs laid down, it isn't just rain that falls. The story talks, also, of how water bled out from the deep earth, aswell...

Hey @Kyle1

Always good to see you around supporting others. I also had to post of my fragility and find balance in giving and being authentic about my own struggles.

Biblical imagery is so powerful. In of itself, and how it has shaped so much human culture over the centuries and beyond many national and cultural boundaries .... Issues of fear and evil are complex and often interwoven with power imbalances and struggles.... I have a few books on theology helping me to sort through it all ... and also on psychology. My mother was old school and saw psychology as an ism against religion but I do not. She would also frighten me with stories of devils, so the=at is probably I developed the way I did. I encountered a wonderful thoughtful discussion of church history at my secular uni ... ie The Letters of Abelard and Heloise ... is before all the reformation ... did a lot of divide and conquer ... ah ... life ... its complicated ... but you seem to have lot of strengths within you. DO not give up.

How we interpret our dreams and use our imagination is often a challenge. I see some place for free will ... but am very careful about it as a concept ... as there are many things that are not true free will ... as a lot of the current discussion of "consent" ... raises ...

Hi @Kyle1

I remember too well when I would wake panicked each morning. Every single day for months. Mine was purely anxiety rather than sadness. What changed for me was seeing my GP and her saying it was possibly hormonal as I was at the perimenopausal age. I don't know that that helps you much but I really had lost hope for every feeling ok on waking again. I started hormone medication and started to feel much better. I was also having horrid nightmares too that included imagery of unspeakable scenes.

You are trying so hard, doing the 'right' things. Supporting others. It must be so frustrating and seemingly hopeless that you continue to feel so low. I really hope things turn around for you soon.

Re: Noah

@Kyle1 it aches my heart to hear your pain you are a blessing to this site and have been for me. Whether Biblical imagery or horror, the brain has a way of interpreting our trauma in a way that we can comprehend and yours really does sound overwhelming like a Biblical flood. In the Bible, the flood was sent to wash away the old in order to start a new better existence. But Noah had the Ark not just for himself but for all the good things of his world.

I'm wondering in this flood of trauma and pain what has been your Ark?

How have you weathered this pain?

How can it be reinforced till you have some shelter in this storm.

These questions are rhetorical of course but I hear you.

Hang in there.

Re: Noah

😆 @Kyle1 .

I'm trying to think what I'd have on my Ark and what would maintain it but I know how hard it is to focus on that when the storm is raging.

Take care and know you will find dry ground.
