My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

My husband often thinks about me. He is definitely a keeper. Last week he spotted a purple jacket he knew that I would like so he bought it for me. I love it! I have it on now. It's lovely and warm. I love my husband so much. He adores me and loves to make me happy and I love him just as much in return. We are lucky to have found each other.

What a sweet book

I bought two books today as well, from a used book store.

Re: My Place

Hi @Oaktree how lovely of your husband to think of you. He sounds lovely. I'm really liking the photos showing the growth journey of your plants. I do not have a green thumb at all. Have you thought of tomatoes? Chillies can also be good and you can get some mild ones if you don't like them hot.

Have you given any thought on any recipes you might use for when they come ripe? I'd be happy to research if you'd like some ideas.

Meantime. Wrapped for you to have found something you enjoy. Go purple!

@Oaktree Love your plant progress reports. Enjoy your marital peace. What makes a marriage work? What makes for a mental illness? These things I have struggled to understand all my life. I did my darndest as a kid and young wife and mum. Tried every which way, and in the end made myself physically unwell through over strain. Still needing a physio 20 years after leaving. That did not even touch the psychic strain. Nowadays I am moving away from blame and the common idea that people did not do the work and accepting that some matches are more compatible than others.

@Delicatessen I have 2 green tomatoes waiting waiting for them to ripen. Apparently it was not a great year tomatoes so happy to have what I have.

@EternalFlower @Zoe7 @Shaz51 Halloooo... Hugs

Re: My Place

Hi @Delicatessen

I do want to grow some tomatoes but they are not suitable for my little greenhouse because they will get too big. I have to wait till spring to plant them outside. I don’t actually like chilli. My mouth can’t handle even the tiniest bit of chilli.

I was thinking I would just make salads when my cucumbers and lettuce are ready to harvest. I will probably just roast the carrots and parsnips. However I am happy for you to do some research on what I can make out of these ingredients. It has to be a healthy recipe. I am also growing broccoletti and some herbs (parsley, basil, oregano & thyme).

I have a raised garden bed to establish but I have to wait till I can afford the soil for it to start using it. I am wanting to plant some beetroot in it. Apparently beetroot can be grown all year here.

@Appleblossom

Hi hun,

What makes a marriage work? Interesting question. First of all finding the right partner. My husband is a very understanding and caring man. He is also very laid back and chilled. When I have been unwell and felt betrayed by him because he called the police to take me to hospital I threatened divorce but he would not leave me. It was only a matter of time before I changed my mind. It was only the illness talking. I have put him through such a lot and I feel guilty for that. I think our marriage has worked so well because my husband is so easy going. He says if you want his opinion he will ask me for one lol. Also we have never really argued. We also don’t worry about money. It’s not your money and my money. It’s all just our money. It works really well. He also lets me have pretty much anything I want. He likes to spoil me. Really there is nothing to argue about. I don’t really know what our secret is after almost 30 years of marriage but I can say that we are best friends and we both act like kids. The other day he asked me when we were going to grow up and I said that I hoped never! We just have a lot of fun together and I love him so much.

What are you going to use your precious two tomatoes for? I hope you are going to make something yummy out of them. Thanks for being so encouraging about my gardening efforts. I am enjoying watching things grow. I am glad that I am taking progress pictures because you really can see the changes in them. Day to day there doesn’t seem to be much change.

love to you, gently bently

Re: My Place

Hi there @Oaktree

that book looks like the perfect gift for you!

I laughed when you said you husband had been abducted by aliens....they are the sort of thoughts I have when my husband comes home late or we are out and I suddenly can't see him!

Do you have any nice plans for the weekend?

Re: My Place

Hi @hanami

Tomorrow I am going for a tour of the children's hospital with my knit and natter group. It's to thank us for the blankets that we have donated to the hospital. It is going to go for about an hour and I am looking forward to it. Other than that I have no other plans for the weekend.

How about you? Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

Now you have been through a lot together. I lived mostly on the extreme social margins, but nowadays have a relatively stable life.

Yes, Creation is wonderful to be involved with; trees for wood and shade and plants for beauty and nourishment. All very healing. Just had a chat with young neighbour, about garden, the facts of life and everything. I have been cutting back some diosma hard and spreading the cuttings as mulch. I no longer give Mr Bunnings much satisfaction.
