My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

Hi hun,

I wanted to address your feelings of loneliness. I know how that feels. I once ended up in hospital because I was so lonely. Like you SANE forums did help me a bit but you are not always going to get an immediate answer or people over east go to bed while it’s still early here.

I am sorry about your friend and your God children. That was a big loss. I don’t have many friends either and the 2 friends that I do have are too busy to fit me in. I am lucky now because my husband retired, so he is home with me all the time now. He used to be a travelling salesman. That was a hard time. I was frightened at night and had trouble sleeping. Maybe you could join a support group or some sort of activity group? I am lucky because I got referred to Tendercare so they take me out on activities with other people. I wonder if you can get NDIS so you can get a support worker?

I just want you to know that it’s completely understandable that you feel so sad because you are lonely. Humans need connection. Have you tried SANE’s recovery club? You can do a zoom meeting every day if you want to. It’s great to feel that sense of connection

Re: My Place

@Oaktree I can imagine you would have felt vulnerable while your hubby was away. The having to adjust when he was at home. I am glad he is home full time for you now.

My big concern with joining any groups is that I am self conscious because I am missing the top 3 front teeth and 2 front bottom teeth. The top teeth I can kind of hide but the bottom teeth are so unsightly that I am so embarrassed I tend not to go out anywhere new. While I am not working I can't afford even the government dental services.

I wouldn't even know how to get on to NDIS. My GP has written a medical exemption for me before but that didn't really do much aside from stop me from getting messages about applying for jobs for 3 months. I have exhausted my savings trying to keep my mortgage from going into arrears, normally my account is in the minus after all the bills have been paid. That's with my brother helping out but he is on a low income and has his own bills he has to pay.

As @tyme knows I am a Christian, and praying, reading the Bible and listening to my favourite Christian music often helps but sometimes I'd just like to have a human connection outside of my family.

I'm not sure why it hit me tonight, I was okay for the majority of the day 😔

Please see the post above yours.
I am expecting my lower middle teeth to fall out at some stage as my bone has receded. I won’t be able to afford implants either. I think I will just try and embrace it.

I understand that you are embarrassed but you don’t need to be. I will come to SV and look for the toothless person lol! No chance of finding you if you are hiding in your house reading the bible though!!!

Having read your last post I just thought that you might be worried about being on zoom because of your teeth. I just wanted to let you know that you can keep your camera off so that is not an issue.

Re: My Place

Hi @ENKELI , I'm so sorry to hear how down you are feeling at the moment.

First things first, do you feel this is related to your physical health?

Secondly, I'm hearing there are 2 main things on your mind right now: 1) feeling embarrassed because of your teeth 2) finances.

I'm hearing that these things don't always get you down, but it has tonight.

We care @ENKELI . We want to sit with you through this. I'm really hearing all the strain you are experiencing at the moment, but I also hear you have been able to take this to the Lord in prayer.

Re: My Place

@Oaktree thanks for the suggestion, I'll look it up. I'm thinking of joining Shoulder to Shoulder which is a collaboration between SANE and Open Arms, the Veteran Affairs provider of counselling for families of veterans. My dad is a Vietnam Vet and I have used Open Arms counselling previously.

A huge problem for me also is motivation. As in I have none. It has become worse over the last 12 months and I am unsure why but at one stage I was only washing my hair once a week when I'd normally wash it 3 times a week. I lost interest in cooking which I love and none of my normal hobbies held any interest. It's slowly coming back and I am thinking about maybe starting a diamond painting.

Thanks so much, I feel better just knowing that there are other people who understand and don't judge xoxo
