My Place

My Place

Hi guys,

I just wanted to have a thread where I could talk about things that make me happy without bothering anyone else.

So on Sunday a week ago I planted some seeds into a metal tub. Some veggie seeds. Carrots, garlic chives and although it’s not the season for it I threw in some cucumber seeds.

Well yesterday, only a week after planting I noticed my first little green shoot. Then today, there are a bunch of green shoots. Funnily enough I think it’s the cucumbers that have come up first. I may have to make a cloche to help them grow in the cooler weather. The tub is sitting on a concrete path so hopefully that will help keep the soil a bit warmer. I moved them a bit more into the sunshine today as we noticed that the carport was casting shade on them quite early in the afternoon.

I am so happy to see their green little faces pushing up from under that dark earth. Gives me hope in all things. I love to watch things grow. It makes me happy to think that I have played a part in that.

Every day I water them and have a chat with them. How are you today my seeds? I hope that you will grow soon! Now I can encourage them to grow bigger and stronger.

I can’t wait to set up my other veggie garden and grow more things. I am especially looking forward to planting my tomatoes come spring.

Re: My Place

@ArraDreaming ahhh yikes, i guess on the bright side humid/warm + rainy combo is better than cold + rainy?

staying in the library sounds like a good idea. reading any interesting books while you wait out the flooding?

Re: My Place

you'll love solar panels @Oaktree I love mine and I hardly pay anything for electricity now, sometimes I'm in credit.

I hope you have a great day.

Yes we are getting solar panels installed but no battery. Waiting on the battery prices to come down and perhaps have a rebate here in WA

@Oaktree @Shaz51 We've looked into batteries as well, but they're still too expensive and the payback period before it's payed for itself is too long for us. I think last time I worked it out, it was tool close to the warranty expiry.

@rav3n we read some books and played with some blocks and Lego
Libraries have so much cool stuff
And it’s free

Re: My Place

@ArraDreaming they do have cool stuff!! plus, they usually have really nice bean bags to slouch on. i used to volunteer at a library and one of my jobs was to prep the lego workshop - the prep involved me building the lego to make sure there's enough pieces... definitely one of the most chill volunteer roles i've ever done

I've got a leak in my roof too @ArraDreaming . It's coming through around the edges of the skylight. It's not bad though. It'll get fixed.

Hey @Oaktree 🙂

I have solar panels. I've got a pretty big system. No battery though. I had to pay outright for it and I think it was about $15k.

I have an electric car so the solar helps. It also heats the pool. So I think it would be a lot more exp without the panels.

Do you get a rebate on the panels?

Re: My Place

G’day @tyme

yes we get a rebate from the government of about $2200. The system is 6.6kw because we have single phase power so that’s the biggest we can go and it’s costing us $4,790 through Solargain. It’s getting installed halfway through November
