Something’s not right

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed... OK, I'm both.

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed... OK, I'm both.

As I mentioned in my last post, I got a new job recently. Unfortunately, since the first day, I realized that it was not what I expected.

Ethically, the organization is very questionable. There's a lot of company politics and drama I've observed already. And I haven't gotten paid yet.

I asked my colleagues when they get paid and they said "once a month, at the end of the month". Today is three days into the month, so I e-mailed the HR person to ask whether I was in the current pay cycle and whether she has my correct details and she said:

Here's a copy of the form you filled out, this is where we got the details. May I say, your handwriting is very hard to read.

Who the [...] KNOWS what BSB, account number and tax file number she put in... if you couldn't understand the digits, call me and ask me to clarify them, instead of guessing.

She e-mailed accounts at the company and they said:

He's on monthly, not fortnightly. We have loaded his payment and it's under authorization.

So it's close, but hopefully it doesn't go to the wrong account. There's no website where you can check the details they have on file.

I feel pretty silly. I was so excited at first....

At this point, I'm not applying for new jobs, but I'm keeping my phone on. Literally. If someone calls asking about an application I did a few weeks ago, I'll pick up the phone.

And I did.

Tomorrow I have an interview for a HUGE company. The salary is much bigger and the work is interesting. It could be an offer I can't refuse. Knowing my luck, though, that'll be awful too.

Hi @florencefifty,

I'm sorry to read that your new job isn't panning out the way you expected it would. What a shame - I would imagine that would be pretty disheartening.

It's a bit weird that they didn't tell you about the pay cycle when you started. I wouldn't think it should be your job to followup with HR around getting paid. I hope it gets sorted out for you asap.

I hope the interview goes well today - fingers and toes crossed you get the job and that it is a job that you actually really enjoy.

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather
