Isolated and Lonely

Isolated and Lonely

I'm a middle-aged woman who lives with my mother these days. I am single and I have no children. I've lost friends many times over my adult life when my mental health hasn't been the best. Apparently I am too heavy and hard-work so people sever ties with me.

The past three years have been really tough. I've had work-place bullying to the point I had to stop working and go on income protection. I've had sexual harrassment. I had a nasty relationship break up with a man who somehow knew really intimate things about me and wouldn't tell me who told him. Then he ghosted me.

So now here I am. Not working. Living with mum. Friendless. Lonely.

I see psychiatrist fortnightly. I take medication. I go for a walk every morning. I've just started CBT program with a psychologist. But I'm still suffering.

How do you meet new friends when you are suffering depression? It is a vicious circle. You need friends to get better but you push people away because you are unwell.

I feel so let down by so many people.

Any suggestions?

I don't mean to be soliciting, but for me...I found a really great church. It hasn't fixed all my problems, but I've found some real, warm, welcoming, nonjudgmental friends.
