Paranoia

Paranoia

Its not something I tend to talk much about mainly because I didnt have much need to. Ive always dealt with paranoia, thinking people are talking behind your back, conspiring againist you, that sort of stuff, I always figured that it happened to everyone. I always brushed it off as my imagination.

Over the last little while I have been having hallucination, the visual ones are people who I feel are watching me, like there is a group that is watching me and reporting back to well I wont say here to avoid upsetting people but lets say my hallucinations have a very religious aspect.

Anyhow the hallucinations freak me out but it seems to have kicked my paranoia into over drive. I keep seeing cars following me when I drive, I mean on the freeway, no option for the other driver to be anything but behind me. It happens in town as well but still, it makes no sense.

Im reasonably good at reassuring myself that its all in my head and that no I dont need to make sudden turns etc. With all the medications Im on I would think something would deal with this but no.

I tried talking to my psychologist about it but we kinda just kept talking, by we I suppose I mean me and I was non-stop chat. Is it just a matter of dismissing it, acknowledging its not real or is there something you can do to actually address it?

Hi @ClockFace

Thank you for reaching out to the Forums!

It takes courage to talk about your experiences here on the Forums and reach out to the community. I'm glad to hear that you are being supported by your psychologist and had the opportunity to chat with them. There are many ways to cope with hallucinations and if you are able to dismiss them or acknowledge that they are not real is a great option.

I have a few resources for you that talk about the symptoms you are experiencing though the diagnosis may not be right for you. Please see the links below:

There are lots of resources on the internet and here at the Forums, the community may have some experiences they can share with you.

I hope that helps a bit and you are able to find some answers!

Take care

@RiverSeal

Thanks for that. Very helpful. Will have to discuss with psychologist further but I never equated paranoia with delusion before.

I suppose I am fortunate that I realise that its not real but it certainly gets the blood pumping.
