@ocean I use a single word mantra as a focus tool in sitting or walking meditation. Affirmations are positive sayings you can repeat to yourself that help with negative self-talk

@ocean I've read a few and never thought I could believe in what I was saying... maybe my depression got in the way

I read in a book somewhere at some stage (I think Louise Hay ) affirmation book to say it even when you don’t at first sort of “resonate” or feel it because affirmations do generate I guess emotions and feelings ,be it insecurities, negative beliefs ,anxious symptoms and depression (whatever one is going through ) and It basically translates ( for me ) “fake it until I make it “type thing and her book also said because of insecurities, fears ,negative self belief patterns to start easy and say “I am willing to change my way of thinking “ … which I found /find easier to affirm if I’m struggling to change through saying an affirmation (affirmations can be powerful I know but so much so your body can reject it and react negatively ). So using willing in the affirmation to begin with and eventually when ready can drop yhe word willing , and just state the affirmation to I can say or whatever. this makes sense.

Thanks @ocean that does make some sort of sense. Maybe I should have another go.
