Seizures - PNES with PTSD?

Seizures - PNES with PTSD?

Hello, just wondering if there's anybody out there with lived experience or resources to help grasp the experience of Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures? I'm understanding that this could be part of my PTSD or cPTSD. I have also been diagnosed with psychotic depression.

Hi @PossumSocks

I just wanted to reach out to offer you some support 💜

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re living with psychogenic non epileptic seizures and just from the little bit that I’ve read it sounds incredibly distressing 💜

Although I don’t have any lived experience that I can share with you (I really wish that I did so that I could be more helpful 💜) I’ve found a few resources that may be of interest to you.

The first resource that I wanted to share with you is the Epilepsy Foundation 💜

As well as providing a variety of different resources and services, they also provide some information about psychogenic non epileptic seizures.

As such, I’ve just shared the link to this particular section of their website below, just in case you would like to take a look:

https://epilepsyfoundation.org.au/understanding-epilepsy/seizures/types-of-seizures/psychogenic-non-epileptic-seizures-pnes/

The second resource that I thought may be helpful for you is Epilepsy Action Australia 💜

As such, they also provide some information about psychogenic non epileptic seizures and at the bottom of the page they’ve listed a couple of references, which you may be able to follow up 😊

I’ve just shared the link to this particular section of their website, just in case you would like to explore this further:

https://www.epilepsy.org.au/epilepsy-trainer-news-feature-psychogenic-non-epileptic-seizures/

Epilepsy Action Australia also provide some information about a variety of online communities that have been created especially for people who are living with epilepsy 💜

I wasn’t too sure if the opportunity to connect with other people who may share similar experiences to your own is something that may be helpful for you and as such, I’ve just shared the link to this particular section of their website, just in case you would like to take a look:

https://www.epilepsy.org.au/how-we-can-help/online-communities/

Last but not least, I just wanted to share a little bit of information about the National Epilepsy Line - just in case you would like to talk with someone about some of your experiences 💜

Essentially, the National Epilepsy Line is a ‘national telephone and telehealth service for all epilepsy related questions. Available Australia wide, your call will be answered by a specialist epilepsy nurse.’

As such you’re welcome to contact them on 1300 37 45 37 or alternatively you can schedule a telehealth appointment 💜

I’ve just shared the link to this particular service below, just in case this is something that’s of interest to you:

https://www.epilepsy.org.au/our_services/epilepsy-nurse-line/

I hope that this helps you a little bit 😊

Take care,

ShiningStar 💜

Re: Seizures - PNES with PTSD?

Hi there. Yes I also experience these. They’re now called Dissociative Seizures and they are recognised as being as debilitating as Epileptic Seizures. I hadn’t had any for e

years and then out of the blue I had one yesterday. I am scared they’ll take my drivers licence away again. At this point there is no treatment except psychological therapies. I hope you’re ok. Please let me know how yours present?
