Conversations

Ive never really mentioned this to anyone before, but here it goes...

I am alone a lot, and don't have any friends and family don't seem to care.

Since being very young, I have had conversations with myself but as if I am talking to someone. I can't help myself. Today I noticed myself doing it a lot. And tbh it has just made me feel really sad. I am that desperate for connection that here I am literally having a conversation with a ghost. The conversations are literally as if I am talking to someone...so about everyday stuff or particular topics.

As I say, this makes me feel really sad and I just cannot work out wtf is wrong with me...I have been through so much in my life - a lot of trauma and hurt.

Im in a really dark place mentally and I have no one to turn to. I feel more isolated than I have ever done. I'm struggling to believe there is a point in me carrying on anymore. I'm not usually a crier but I cried hard this afternoon. This emotional pain hurts so much. I have things I can't really talk to anyone about and when I have spoken to people it get brushed off. I honestly don't know what to do anymore....😢😢😢

Sorry...this post was supposed to be more about me having ghost conversations....

Re: Conversations

Hey @Loz_3647 ,

I hear you when you speak about your loneliness.

I often have conversations with myself (internally), but I don't see anything wrong with this.

Then again, I live alone, spend hours on my own, but I don't feel lonely whatsoever. It wasn't always like this.

I also had very dark thoughts and felt empty, void and isolated. Over time, with therapy, I learnt to accept myself and not rely on others for my happiness.

Life is a journey. You are here for a reason.

Hugs, tyme

Re: Conversations

Hello @Loz_3647

I hear you. Thanks for writing about it, that's the start of a (virtual) conversation. What everyday topics or particular topics would you like to talk about?

I'm alone a lot too and am out of practice at chatting, even to myself.

It's good you were able to cry sometimes it brings a bit of relief.

Re: Conversations

Hi @Loz_3647

You have two different subjects here - I think they are interconnected.

Talking to yourself and internal conversations are perfectly normal. I have lived alone for well over 30 years now and when I have had pets I have talked to them - now I don't have any pets and I yak away to myself a lot - when I am watching The Chase Australia I get very vocal - as if I was really in the studio. I also laugh out loud at the TV or what I am reading even - I think it's perfectly normal.

But loneliness - that's different - I don't feel lonely - I am a very resilient person - and I have had loss and trauma in my life too - luckily when I was growing up I had a lot of support from my Dad and grandparents - and my uncles who were all young - and they made up for the poor relationship I had with my mother.

I do know that childhood trauma can make it hard to really develop the resilience that can help us adjust to other difficulties - it doesn't make it any easier though - it's more as if my experience in overcoming tough yards has given me the feeling that these are just challenges.

A good cry - yes - that is a good thing actually - though crying alone is lonely - that I know. When we cry we release a hormone in our tears - this hormone can make us ill when stress causes it to build up in our bodies - crying gets it out - so as unhappy as you are I really don't think you need to worry about that.

You are alone and in a dark place atm - I hear you - do you have a therapist or a sensitive GP you can talk to - we all need feedback from other people at times. If you don't have someone you can always ring Lifeline on 13 11 14 - they will listen and give you some feedback - maybe even ideas of where to seek help to sort things out for yourself.

Keep in touch here - after a while you will get to know people and we will chat - I am glad you shared - life can be really tough at times when we are alone - or with other people -

All the best

Re: Conversations

Hi @Loz_3647 ,

It's great you can finally open up a bit and share some info. I ramble on to myself at home most of the time, it's actually quite fun, I enjoy it. I think I would drive a partner crazy if I had one. I try not to do it in public (that would be strange) but I too have had a lot of strange and unusual things happen in my life, maybe it's just a way to cope. Not every coping strategy has to be a 'mental illness', it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. Are you enjoying the dialogue or is it painful? Sometimes if I am stressed the talk will be frustrated like I'm trying to get anger out, but mostly it's harmless. I mentioned in another post I was concerned about the ability of smart phones to listen in on conversations but it doesn't stop me from rambling on. I guess if somebody was listening I can bore them to tears with some of my rambling word spaghetti! If you feel there's more to it then of course see if there's a cause, but it sounds just like a coping mechanism.
