Psychosis and complex pstd

Psychosis and complex pstd

Hi I'm new here and this time last year I had a full psychosis for over a year I heard voices and I saw things that where not there it is hard to believe what was real and was wasn't even now I still question it. I thought god was telling me what to do and and I had to do what he wanted and I did it and I broke the law. Which I'm still going to court for. While going through my psychosis I was dealing with flash backs of the violence that had happend to me in the past and I would blame my partner when it wasn't even him it was actually my ex husband that used to do it.

The police would be called out far not cause I would be lost when I left my house and I would lose my phone's as well. Once the police realised how bad my mental health was they put me in Hospital to get help I was in there for four months and once I read the report on what I was doing in there I was shocked because it wasn't me and I can remember some of the things that happened but not all of it. With the things I remember I still questing if it was real or not. I'm lucky to have support from my partner and the police and the hospital I have came along way compared to last year but there is still more to go.. I just hope I don't ever have to go through another one ever agian cause that scared me. Has one gone through something similar

Hi @Kath83

That sounds scary, sorry you had to experience that. Was your psychosis brought on by any drugs or alcohol? Often times there's a trigger.

Going through my own tough time at the moment, @Kath83, but I just wanted to let you know that we know what you are going through. Sending best wishes, and I hope that there is someone here who can help you more than I can at the moment. Take care.

Re: Psychosis and complex pstd

ihavent gone through psychosis myself but my little sister did and had a situation similar to you, in hospital and not remembering what she'd done or who she'd been. She was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of that psychosis, based on the trauma of not being safe in her own mind. I hope you are travelling ok and starting to sortthings out. Here if you want to chat.

That must have been hard for you to see your little sister go through that @LeChuck . Also quite scary. Our minds can play horrible tricks on us sometimes 😞

Wishing you a wonderful day

Re: Psychosis and complex pstd

Hi @Kath83

I've been considering whether I wanted to engage with this conversation. Not so much I don't want to share, but more that most of my memories of my psychosis have been lost to time. Which is probably a good thing, I guess.

Anyway, just wanted to say that I've been there too. I think my psychosis actually developed over years as my mental health deteriorated. Drugs were an issue for me.

But yeah, this is all 'ancient history' for me- my time lines are a bit fuzzy, but I think I was finally correctly medicated in 2006 (after giving up weed in 2005). I have managed since then to live a pretty good life of sorts. I have a lot to be grateful for.

But back to the psychosis- I felt like I had an open channel of communications with god and was blessed with powers few other mortals had. Everything made sense...Then, on the flipside at basically the same time, I was cursed by god and found everything confounding and confusing. Like I should have known more, but was deficient in some way, rendering me stupid...

Anyway, I'll stop waffling. I hope your court process is positive. Also that your supports remain in place. And I hope that you never have to go through such an experience again

Hi @StuF

@Kath83

Sorry to hear of your issues years ago, there was a term for this as a kid, I had to look it up again: "Messiah Complex" or something similar. It's been common all through modern history, people were locked up because they thought they were going to save the world, often after reading some religious texts or being influenced by people who wanted to cause them harm. It doesn't seem to happen much anymore, I guess for most people the reality is they have been influenced to think this way and the reality of what it entails is beyond what they can handle. Society doesn't help, I've had a conversation with a friend recently about movies with a singular hero, it feeds into this sort of psychosis that one person can 'save the world' but when you think about it the logistics of this are near impossible. Thankfully most people recover and realise life is a collaborative effort and being a singular hero would be a very lonely and miserable experience.

@justanotherguy

I was aware of it as a "Messiah Complex". But yes interesting it appears through time.

It would indeed be lonely and miserable- which is how it felt at times. Even though it was only in my mind, that was the 'reality' I was living at the time 🙂

@StuF

The idea that one person can save the world, or that one person thinks of everyone else above themselves is a strange one and I'm not sure how it helps in an evolutionary sense. I have been depressed and had the typical thoughts that I was worthless and the world would be better off without me, which I guess is the flipside of that. But it may have a lot to do with loneliness and isolation, or other social factors.

Re: Psychosis and complex pstd

@LeChuck your reply helped me define the cause of my PTSD. It IS due to not feeling safe in one's own mind.

When I came to realise I experience psychosis when I stop medication for Schizophrenia, understanding that I believe things that are not true in the middle of an episode has made me lose trust in myself. I am still in a space of hibernation since my first relapse after a decade, last year.

When you all share on these forums you help people work through their own experiences.

Thankyou.

@Former-Member I'm so glad I could help in some small way. You've helped me too, on understanding that my sister is probably hibernating and recovering right now too.

I wish you all the best on your journey ❤️
