Something’s not right

Don't know if I should even be posting here, as I have a 31 year track record of therapy/techniques to feel better being subpar/outright not working

I'm safe.

But here we are. Shit is getting worse. I'm coming off my antidepressant because I thought it was messing me up. Maybe it is, and maybe the reason I feel worse is because this SSRI has hella withdrawal symptoms. My psychiatrist is monitoring the taper down, and actually recently increased the time between drops. He's admitting me in March on the day I go down to 0mg.

I don't know what I'm doing with myself anymore. I SH about two weeks ago, and the reasons I haven't since is because I'm basically out of 'space,' I'm also struggling to close the most recent SH still, but also my memory/perception is shot in the last four days, possibly longer but I noticed four days ago. I can't seem to hold more than one item in my head at once. One thing, I can remember if I repeat it to myself. If I have to juggle even two things to make a decision that combines the two, I lose them both. Good luck getting me to juggle more. So I just forget that I'm thinking about SH.

And the other one, the Big S, sounds good but I have very specific reasons not to, so until those reasons get stamped out of my subconscious, I'm safe. Because I don't have the mental capacity to really comprehend a change there.

My anxiety/dysohoria/whatever TF it is is so bad. It's bad in the morning, but at some point mid-afternoon, I feel much, much worse. I engage in a certain drug behaviour (a very common one, legal, but not an acutely dangerous one) to help myself sleep, but at the moment, I'm using it uring the day, as it's the only thing that has ever helped my anxiety, except certain strong anti-anxiety meds, which stop working after a few days, and they're not safe to take longer anyway. I'm going into debt trying to have enough of this drug.

I really don't expect anyone to be able to help. We'll all get frustrated. But maybe not, since I haven't specifically reached out here before.

I also have a singular delusion, which hasn't changed since I was a kid except in intensity, where I 'know' I'm not human in some way, and everybody can tell, and they know shit's fucked and it offends everyone. So that makes it really hard to open up. I get most success getting my feelings out in my diary, because no one is obligated to read it. What I like about here is that no one is going to be thinking they need to reply immediately. A text hotline, webchat, especially phone call, all require someone to reply right away. Here, there's no pressure and you a deserve no pressure.

Hey @polyesterflower sounds like you're really dealing with some heaviness right now. It's good to know you're safe at present, but it does sound like you're really struggling to hold on, and finding whatever ways you can to cope, even if they aren't the healthiest.

Changing meds can definitely cause a bit of havoc, making things feel pretty unstable. I hope you find an equilibrium that works for you. And both adjusting medication, and longer-term depression can have a pretty big impact on memory. If this is a new experience for you, could be worth mentioning to your GP.

As for feeling like you're not human - I think quite a number of people here can probably relate. I know I definitely can! Feeling like you're always on the outside, a weirdo, or that everyone else seems to 'get it' (what is 'it'? Honestly I do not know) and you're just there struggling to understand what it means to even exist. For me, it has a lot to do with being neurodiverse - I'm ADHD and autistic and have never really 'fit in' to society. Finding other neurodiverse people has been incredible in helping me to feel less alone. I don't know if you identify as neurodiverse but it could be worth looking into (having poor memory is also a neurodiverse trait btw). A quote I have found comforting in this sense is, "It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society." I don't want to fit in with the 'norm' - I have found it's much more interesting and fun to be my weirdest self - although part of that has been finding fellow weirdos who accept me for who I am.

I don't know if you can relate to what I've said but if so I'm always happy to chat about it further. If not, I'm still keen to hear more about your experiences, because in my books what is shareable is bearable 💜

I likethat I'm not the only person who feels like a weird. I wear that like a badge of honour, and even yesterday my friend said to their friend who had tagged along, '[Redacted] is a weird like me. I don’t think you understand how weird we are' after they asked me i my wounds are okay (for 2 weeks, they've been splitting when I take the supports off) and I just rattled off how I've made progress and I felt so connected to my friend.

But this 'not human' thing is different. I do connect with your post, despite that. At least I know, objectively, that I AM human, and that there's a reason I can't quite explain this feeling. When I was younger, I thought there was a tangible explanation and that I really was some kind of weird occult/demonic thing. I don’t miss that.

@polyesterflower I'm glad you've found some kinship in other weird folks. Sounds like you still feel alienated, and I am curious if you've ever found a therapist or other professional support with whom you do feel safe? Someone who could help you unpack and explore this concept further?

Hi @polyesterflower

Things sound tough, getting off medication can be worse than being on it. Your psychiatrist seems to be doing the right thing. As for feeling not human, as mentioned, lots of people think like this, and are quite happy being different when they come to terms with it. It would be better to get stable with/without medication first then maybe explore that idea.
