Something’s not right

TW - passive ideation. I am safe.

TW - passive ideation. I am safe.

Hi, I have Complex PTSD, ADHD, depression and am autistic (Level 2 diagnosis), at the moment I'm dealing with a lot of things...the stress from this has exacerbated my thoughts of taking my life (I am safe). My psychologist has said that I have 'passive ideation', she's right...the intrusive thoughts are there every day and every night, it's tiring, I'm tired. I've resorted to self medicating at nighttime to put myself to sleep, I don't want to have to resort to this but it's the only way that works. Distraction helps, like watching a movie and listening to music, these things are only a temporary relief, then it's back to the same unwanted thoughts. Because I don't want to hurt myself, I like things in my life and enjoy them, yet the thoughts? Then with the thoughts comes the sadness and hopelessness. So what can I do? Keep watching movies, keep listening to music keep going out for NDIS support, , keep going...because I want to keep going, but I'm scared that at some time I won't want to keep going, it's happened before. I don't want to reach that point again. I guess I'm venting, trying to find if others have helpful ideas to handle ideation. Even though it's been with me for most of my life, the combination of the ideation and the depression scares me. Note - I am safe.

Hi @LaserBeamOz

Welcome to the Forums and thanks for telling us a bit about you.

It sounds so hard to be going about your days with those unwanted thoughts always in the background. It must be exhausting.

It’s hard when it feels like all your strategies are doing is keeping your head above water. How we feel is always changing though. At some point things will settle down, stressors will pass or settle into a new pattern and you may feel differently.

It’s great to read that you have things in your life that you like and enjoy. I wonder if, through the work you’ve done yourself and with your psychologist, you are more capable of managing your thoughts and emotions and so less likely to reach that point again where you didn’t want to keep going…?

Suicide Call Back Service have a short article you might like to read about strategies that can help when feeling suicidal.

Helping yourself when feeling overwhelmed and suicidal

You’re definitely not alone in what you’re going through @LaserBeamOz and I hope you find these forums a helpful space to connect with others having similar experiences. We have a welcome thread here where you can introduce yourself if you like.

Thanks also for letting us know you're safe.

All the best @LaserBeamOz

Welcome to the forum @LaserBeamOz

I am glad you are "safe". I could relate a lot to your post. Hope you find being here helpful.

I was told about passive and active suicidal ideation about 8 years ago. It can be useful distinction but I suspect it can also be tricky and not a bulletproof distinction.
