Dealing with the mental health system (may be triggering)
There's probably a thread or threads dealing with this topic, but after many years of frustration it is obvious the mental health system is far from perfect. I get it, they are only human, but entering the mental health service, whether by choice or not, often leads to more problems than answers. Dealing with people in distress everyday must be very draining on mental health staff, some cope well, many don't, but sadly I met quite a few really evil people and many just pushing their own agenda. In my case, not only did I have to figure out what was wrong with myself, I had to learn to diagnose each mental health practitioner, in order to learn how to deal with them, learn the workings of the mental health service so that I could survive it, and finally put up with enough rubbish until I found someone who could help me. I am now out of it, and am exactly the same person as when I went in, just a lot older and with many more scars. If there was some kind of instruction manual for navigating the mental health service that would be great, I'm sure it would help a lot of people avoid unnecessary distress.
