TW: Feelings and thoughts around SH

Does anyone else think like this?
My son broke a glass 2 nights ago and my immediate go to thought is I can hurt myself with that, I cannot throw that glass away as I may need it. This glass means hurt, pain, blood and relief, a way out of the pain in my head and my thoughts, my anxiety and my sadness. Maybe a way to remove myself both mentally and physically.

I know I need to put the broken glass in the bin but cant and I am hoping that it remains on the bench a little longer.

Does anyone else ever feel like this? How can I stop these thoughts, these self harm needs?

Re: TW: Self harm

heya @EM26 thank you so much for sharing your experiences of this. I know a lot of us here have or have had thoughts or experiences of SH over our lifetime. It's such an important thing to talk about.

Are you worried about you might do?

I know for me, I've had these thoughts over different times of my life. Sometimes it has been stronger, but other times it's been a fleeting and confronting thought that just comes from nowhere. So I know you're not alone. For me, the thoughts don't fully go away, but I eventually learnt to cope with them.

From what you say, this sounds like it's been a distressing time. This post here has some ideas you could try, but do you have anyone you feel comfortable to talk to about this?

PS. I just made a small change to the top of your post to add a Trigger Warning. For some people, this gives them the choice about whether they feel up to reading and talking about this with you. It's one of the ways we can help make the forums are healing space for everyone.

I thought you might also be interested to read this post on creating safety online while talking about SH. It helps me a lot!
