Mother to be experiencing anxiety

Mother to be experiencing anxiety

Hi

I am a mother of a 3 year old currently expecting my second baby. I always wanted a big family so I feel my kids are a blessing. However I cannot help worrying about what is coming. I live with my husband and have no family in Australia, we can't say we have a good support network as we have dedicated our lives to work leaving little time for friends.

in terms of professional development, I have been trying to change careers and when I finally graduated from diploma I got pregnant again. so I think it is something to put on the side.

currently I am working in a childcare centre in the nursery room, and as my pregnancy develops I feel more tired and unable to perform as I used to. my workplace is a mess atm, more than 13 staff have left during the last year and the director just resigned, we have to go through the day with no breaks, overtimes and its becoming the norm. I feel if I quit right now I won't get my maternity leave payments which will help enormously in future.

sorry to be dropping so many things at the time, but I guess at least writing them helps me to calm.

Re: Mother to be experiencing anxiety

Hi there @AnnaMae1

Firstly, welcome to the forums! It's so nice to have you here. I'm one of the peer workers at SANE.

I can really relate to what you are saying. I always wanted a big family but when I was actually pregnant I would be so happy on the one hand but so anxious on the other. Always worrying if I would be able to manage my little ones. I do indeed have four children now and they are all grown up so I managed to survive. But of course that's easy for me to say now.

I'm wondering if it might help you if you do a little investigating of mother's groups that are available in your area. You could join now with your toddler and perhaps establish a small support network. The people you meet there could also point you towards other ways of getting support as a mum with no family in Australia.

That said, I was never really into mother's groups so maybe you aren't either. I used to take my little ones to the park each day and actually inadvertently made a few new friends that way. I would also ask them questions about what was available for mothers in the area. I have family here in Australia but my mum and dad live about half and hour away and my mum has never driven so the only way I could get my mum to help is when my dad was off work and able to drive her to my house. So not often really.

I hope some of that helps. Keep reaching out here.

sending hugs

Hanami
