Are you looking for a listening ear? I will give you mine! Let's come together and chat; all are welcome!

Hi everyone,

It is Monday the 31st of October, 2022. So that means it is Halloween! It also means I am wishing you a happy Monday ahead.

Today I will be going to the library, I will spend more time reading a book I am currently loving. This book is called The Duty of Genius by Ray Monk. It is a biography on one of the most famous philosophers Ludwig Wittgenstein, arguably a genius. I studied Wittgenstein at university in philosophy - he is a very interesting man; it is highly likely he was an autistic man himself (in my opinion there is no doubt). I have attached a link to Goodreads if you want to see this book.

Hi @PositivePossum6

Sounds like a good day planned! I will check out the goodreads link as it sounds interesting.

I hope you enjoy your day in the library,

Hanami 😊

Good morning @hanami,

Yes - I think I have an excellent day ahead planned. I am now at the library and working away at my novel and reading at the same time. It will be a good achievement if I can finish Duty of Genius today. I would like to finish reading it today. I am very close to finishing it.

I think I might wind up getting caught in the rain on my way home. In Victoria rain is in the forecast. Once again, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, rain is expected everyday this week for my city. I absolutely love the rain, especially when I can sit and watch it from inside my home.

And so what does your day have in store for you @hanami?

Thanks so much for your reply @PositivePossum6 !

How far into your novel are you? I absolutely love hearing about people and their writing practice. When I was in primary school I used to write lots of fiction stories. I remember my teacher in year 6 told me I could one day write a novel and that's always stuck in my mind. I did journalism for a few years when my kids were young but the work as a freelancer became so competitive that I gave it away.

I could write again one day though!

I also love the rain, it feels like it's cleaning everything outside. Probably not great for those in flood prone areas though.

For me, I'm working until 5pm. My husband and daughter will be home later today and I'll look forward to that. I have an older daughter who is arriving home today from a big overseas trip so I'll messager her today too. She lives in Victoria whereas I'm in NSW.

Hope your day is super productive

Hanami

Hi @hanami,

In response to your question how far into my novel am I, I am unsure that I know the answer to that question. I would be happy to answer your question if you asked your question a bit differently I could answer it better.

I might be able to reply by means of analogy and assuming your meaning. Writing a novel, for me, is not like mowing a lawn for example. In mowing a lawn you know exactly how much you need to do, how much lawn you need to mow. The reason you know is because you can see how much lawn there is with your own eyes. Not at all the case with a novel. I do not know if this will answer your question, but as of November or so I will have been working on my novel for over 1 year. It is fast approaching one year that I have been working on my novel. Some writers have been working on their novels, short stories, plays, essays, autobiographies for years. I knew one person who had been working on a screenplay for over 12 years.

Do you think you could write a novel? Believe me, once upon a time I thought I could never do such a thing and I really admired those who had. I probably write over 1000 words a day. But to start off I was not able to do this at all!

Hey @PositivePossum6

Thanks so much for your answer. I really appreciate it and found it very interesting.

Perhaps I could write a novel one day. Time will tell! I don't think there's an age limit on this type of thing. I'm now 53 but think it's never too old to write a book.

Hi @hanami,

I entirely agree with you that there is no age limit to writing a novel.

I personally find great joy and happiness in writing itself. That is why it has been so easy to write a novel. One of the main reasons I thought to write a novel is because I was inspired by Dostoevsky actually and his novel The Brothers Karamazov. When I read The Brothers, I got the idea that I could actually do two things: 1) tell an interesting story that is engaging and entertaining and 2) teach people about things I know a lot about: psychology and philosophy. I also thought that if I get this novel published and someone reads it and it makes them happy, this will also make me happy. If just 1 person reads my novel and it makes them happy then I have done a great job.
