Neighbours stealing garage

Neighbours stealing garage

Mental health line was unhelpful as usual, so here goes.

So I allowed my neighbours to store things in my garage, they assured me that it was a temporary thing and they'd be out of there within the month. Next thing I know, they have changed the locks and stolen my garage.

I contacted real estate about this, they want me to keep them informed and I have been diligent in keeping them in the loop. I'm just hoping I don't get kicked out, although I have a medical priority with housing running in the background. What should I do? These neighbours have been detrimental to my mental health and have sent me to hospital twice.

Oh no, @TopDeck ! That's awful! 😮

You don't even know if they are storing illegal things in there, like drugs or something!

Can you contact the Rental Tenancy organisation in your state? Or even get some free local legal advice? I know I rang a local free legal service (in Vic) about a tenancy matter last year, and had a telephone discussion with a lawyer about it that was very helpful. You could see if you have a free local legal advice service or even one in your capital city.

Good luck!

Re: Neighbours stealing garage

Hi @TopDeck,

That's really isn't okay that they have changed the locks and stolen your garage. Is the real estate agent overseeing your property able to investigate this further on your behalf? I'm not really sure why they are putting all the responsibility onto you to investigate. Have you contacted the police about this issue? I'm not sure if they could help but it wouldn't hurt to check with them.

I'm really sorry this is happening to you, I would imagine it would be quite upsetting. It's also sad to read that the neighbour's behaviour has caused you to go to hospital twice - no one should be made to feel that upset by their neighbours.

I really hope you are okay and the situation gets resolved very soon.

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather

Re: Neighbours stealing garage

Hey @TopDeck, thank you so much for telling us what's going on. This sounds really distressing, and I'm sorry your neighbours have had such an impact on you. How have you been coping so far?

This sounds like something a mental health phone-line probably isn't trained in or feels they can give advice on. So it makes sense that they weren't able to help. But it still sounds so frustrating for you.

What I would say, is reach out for some free legal advice on how to approach this. Here are a few that you could contact.

I also agree with @FloatingFeather, maybe you could ask estate agent for support in this?

Take care,

TuxedoCat

Re: Neighbours stealing garage

I have called the police, they did nothing and told me to deal with it via the real estate. I have neighbours from hell and I'm looking forward to getting out of here. I 100% refuse to talk to any more neighbours when I move as well. I just want to be left alone but there's neighbours that just won't take the hint.
