Just tired. I would have liked a friend

Just tired. I would have liked a friend

I’m doing really well, all things considered. I managed to get in to a bachelor degree earlier this year, a STEM subject, they took me on even though I have only achieved year 7 because I did a STAT (special tertiary admissions test) and an extra literacy and numeracy test. I was thrilled! But because I’m regional and don’t have a car, I’m doing the degree 100% online. I’m still really grateful, but it’s very lonely. I don’t have any friends due to being unable to socialise for long periods, and the long hard slog of the everyday gets to me a bit.

I still have my assistance dog for company, and life isn’t terrible. But it can get lonely. I’m hoping to be able to learn to drive, so I can get a hybrid job eventually and be in an office sometimes with company.

Here’s to everyone who would have liked a friend. Hopefully we will have one someday.

Hey @Former-Member ,

I'm a STEM teacher 🙂 I absolutely love it!

I also studied online - my Bachelors and Masters. It was my preferred way of learning actually because I could be working in the mornings, then study in the evenings and weekends in my own time.

Would I say I was lonely? No, not really. I was already working as a teacher all day, so I didn't mind the quietness to study. However, I can see it would be different if I wasn't engaged in activities around people outside studies.

But I have to really congratulate you for getting into your course in the first place!

Are you looking to work in that field?

Congratulations on getting in to the course @Former-Member. It's a huge step to go back to study - well done!

It's great to be able to do so much online these days but it is not the same as connecting face to face. Your goal of getting a car and working in an office in the future sounds like a good plan to build connections.

What kind of dog is your assistance dog?

Please keep posting here on the forums. There are lots of forum friends to be made!

I study online as well. Fine art at Curtin. Online really suits me. I get lonely too - I have a few friends but we seldom catch up. I’m very close with my brother and I have a dog who gets walked a lot . Some days are worse than others. Today at this moment I feel quite good but I always feel better at night. I did spend the evening getting the house clean which makes me feel relaxed .

@BPDSurvivor Yes, the reason I’m studying is to get a job in the field.

@Former-Member she’s a long coat German Shepherd. She’s a bit small for a Shepherd, only weighs around 24kg, but like many long coats, she looks like a teddy bear

Your dog looks gorgeous!!! @Former-Member

Thank you for sharing!

At school today, we had therapy dogs come in (for teachers, not students!)

So I had a pat with a greyhound, a groodle and a great dane. I loved the great dane the most.

How was your day today @Former-Member ?

@BPDSurvivor I actually applied for a job yesterday. It’s the exact job type I want, I read the requirements and found I fulfilled them, and I have the requisite proof. I am still studying, but I can apply to the university to change to part time study if I get the job.

Here’s hoping!

Good on you for sharing you hope @Former-Member .

I love the picture of your dog. It is so good to hear that you are doing things to keep yourself going. It is such an important element of recovery.

Fingers crossed for the job application 🙂

Re: Just tired. I would have liked a friend

Hi @Former-Member - how did the job application go?

I applied for a different position more aligned with my Masters but I didn't get it. It wasn't a pay rise as such, just a different sort of job in the same discipline.

I can't say I'm sad, nor can I say I'm happy. It just wasn't my time I guess - which is totally okay.

I sort of look at it that i'd rather be sifted out in the interview than get to the job and not be able to perform.

Either way, I'm content and busy with what I am currently doing.

I'm thinking of you, BPDSurvivor
