Is there any meaning in this suffering?

Is there any meaning in this suffering?

I have memories on stressful days of workplace harassment that I would never been subject to if my parents didn’t ask me to leave a job that I was really enjoying due to “better opportunity” that I knew from the gut and previous work experience that was not a good place culturally. Through my decision making process as a 24 year old, I was told that I was wrong to think independently. When the chips fell I left this organisation with psychosis it was the same parent who cared for me the least and sexually harassed me that he recently admitted to doing after years of denying. I have learnt to reframe cognitively and learn through this life experience (I never should have had) but, i have never been able to hold a job since due to mental illness, despite exceeding performance at my previous job and top academic grades, the only reason I hold so far is by placing pieces of my prior life together where I can (when at my age now I could be having a more stable lives), and each bit of effort I put to current work requires a painful effort where earlier it used to be a happy process of self actualisation, and there is a dent my self confidence, as I am identifying myself (on the bad days like today) as the person who got abused throughout their 20s, at a time when everyone else is making a solid mark and I have severe anxiety relating to abuse triggered at each bit of adversity where earlier it used to be less than dust off the shoulder.

Hello @Former-Member I notice there's no reply to yet and I don't want you to feel ignored. Your experiences are valid and I hear you and understand.

I too had my first psychotic break in my mid 20s when I was trying to forge a successful and independent life . Sadly I understand it's not uncommon. Picking up the pieces afterwards can feel like a struggle but it sounds as though you've had some successes in finding work and in examining family relationships and past traumas. Please don't feel like you're alone in this, I have the impression there are many forumites on the same path.

I hope a community guide drops by @Judi9877 @Shaz51

and maybe @StuF @Olga can also relate.

There'll still be some bad days but sharing on the forums is one way of finding support.

Have you got any plans for the weekend? Selfcare and finding things you enjoy doing are just so important.

Hi @Former-Member ,

Certainly didn't want you to feel unheard. How are you? As @Dimity asked, is there any self care activity that might help you in this moment?

@Dimity

@StuF

i didn’t plan much this weekend. I took today off for rest, watched a bit of tv.

My life is a bit quiet these days.

Though you’ve got me thinking about it now. Think my plans are bit vague. The generally schedule is wake when I wake, study a bit, cook/ eat/ walk/ have background tv on. I suppose I could be more proactive about activities to support mood.

It’s also been raining in vic continuously for several days! agh.

Re: Is there any meaning in this suffering?

I hear you

This illness really is crap. Those that think they know best persuade you to leave a job you like because you’re not capable of thinking straight anyway. I have so many instances in my life where I haven’t followed my instincts because of my illness and I end up acting out and becoming psychotic. It’s a merry go round .

I hope things get better .
