I started a new writing project yesterday
Yesterday I came up with an excellent idea for a new writing project. I called it "What is Jake Reading". If it is two things that I am extremely passionate about it is writing and reading (and many other things of course!). In this writing project I talk about what books I am reading, many books will likely not make the cut mainly because they are not very interesting, or they are books that I do not think are very important. So far I have included three books.
I am also writing a novel myself, and one question I get all the time from people is "what is your book about?" and I am always at a loss to tell them the answer to this question. Let me tell you the reasons why I am at a loss to explain to other people:
1. I have autism and it makes things very challenging in terms of communication and interaction. It also affects the way I comprehend what other people are saying. When I get asked the question what is my novel about I am usually unsure what the other person has in their mind in terms of what they want to know.
2. I have a friend who is also a writer. He is not writing a novel he is writing a play. One thing that he said to me is that the writer(s) (in the case of works that are co-written) cannot discuss their work. There are also instances where non disclosure agreements are signed expressly forbidding the discussion of the work. Did you know that even in cases involving films there are NDAs that the actors have to sign, and actors are strictly forbidden to not speak of their role in the film.
3. I am unsure I know myself what the novel is about.
4. I had a friend who was a painter, when I visited her house she told me that a particular room is strictly out of bounds during my visit. She explained to me that this was because she is working on a new painting and that she does not want anyone to see it under any circumstances. She didn't want anyone to see it until the painting was finished.
