Bouncing back from break-and-enter / burglary / theft
Dear all,
In my life, I’ve experienced people breaking in to my property, turn the place upside down, then run off with whatever they wanted.
The first time it happened (a number of years ago), I think at first, I was in shock and didn’t feel anything. Two days later, in the evening, ‘they’ came back and stole my car. That was when I really lost it. I ended up needing situational crisis support, and from there I ended up in the coronary unit in hospital as well as ICU for a few weeks because I having heart issues.
It took weeks for me to heal and recover. In the evenings, I’d still ‘hear’ things and it would trigger an unpleasant response.
So, moving on from that, I am due to move house this coming Saturday. However, yesterday, I returned home (current house) to find my house had been broken into…again. So far, I have not ‘felt’ it, nor had any response at all except - ‘what a waste of time’.
I slept at my house like normal, woke up like normal and went to work like normal. While at work, the police called and said they were at my house to do fingerprinting and whatever else. I just told them to go ahead.
Tonight is my nephew’s 5th birthday so I’m having dinner out.
I still don’t ‘feel’ anything, even though my own home has been broken into and my refuge invaded.
The last thing I want is a repeat of a few years ago where I nearly died.
So have you ever had an experience of theft/break-in etc? How did you cope?
