Anxiety & panic attacks

Anxiety & panic attacks

Over the past few months my anxiety has gotten so intense I won't even leave my house anymore. I am in constant fear that if I do anything I'll have a panic attack. From the moment I wake up to when I go to bed at night i am on edge, heart racing, trembling & feeling nauseas ect

What can I do or where can I go for immediate help? I can't even get the courage to book a doc appointment because I'm scared I'll have a panic attack just trying to leave the house.

Hey @Perth1993, I'm sorry things have been so difficult for you. it sounds like you've got a lot of hope for getting better but you've struggling to take the next step. So it's so brave of you to reach out for support here ❤️

If you're up for it, we have a drop-in counselling line which could be useful as a first step? If you click here, you'll see a website with the phone number or the online chat as well (if you click "Chat to us")

I'm TuxedoCat, one of the peer workers here. And I really relate to your description of anxiety. I've had times where I have feelings of anxiety from when I wake up to when I try to sleep. It was so overwhelming for me.

Is there something you have done in the past to help? For me, I like to distract myself with videogames, take a hot shower or just watch a silly TV show.

❤️ Sitting with you

Re: Anxiety & panic attacks

Thank you, I will try and get the confidence to even make a phone call.

I have struggled with anxiety in the last but it's only ever been like nervousness in certain situations and stuff but now, in the last couple of months it has become almost crippling. Stuff that would be a good coping mechanism in the past now struggles to even distract me from my own thoughts if that makes sense.

Hi there @Perth1993

I'm also one of the peer workers here at Sane. Your anxiety sounds awful. I've experienced crippling anxiety over the years and can understand your feelings of fear. Are you able to make a telehealth appointment with your GP. That way you won't have to leave the house. I hope you can either call the Sane number that @Former-Member provided or your GP. Reaching out for help is hard but you've made a good first step by posting here.

Sending you strength

Hanami

@Perth1993, I hear you ❤️ I think you've been so brave in reaching out here, and I know when the time is right, you can reach out to the drop-in line. The web-chat might be a good place to start because it's only text ❤️

I'm sorry that your usual coping strategies haven't been working the same as they used to. I like to think of coping strategies as tools. Sometimes we need a hammer and sometimes we need a screwdriver. And it sounds like you don't have the right tool for the job right now.

I'd love to work together to find the right one, if you're up for it? ❤️ You can have a look at this thread for what other members have in their coping toolbox Our coping toolbox 🧰

And tip: if you press "@" and then another persons username (like mine) they will get a notification that you've replied to them

@Perth1993

Try the CATT team. You can call them and ask them for help. I have not used them myself but have been told to call them for psychological crisis which sounds like what you are going through. You need some help and that’s ok.

You can Google them and see if it’s what you think you need.

Oh @Perth1993 , I really feel for you 😞 I have anxiety but yours sounds severe all the time 😞

I agree with the others, if you can bring yourself to call (or even text to start with) it will be the start of your healing journey.

Wishing you strength and hope...
