Mental health month/week

Mental health month/week

This month is mental health awareness month and from 9th-17th is mental health week. So I was wondering what if anything will people be doing for this. It could be trying some new self care stuff or if you are very brave and able to do so even speaking out about mental health, what do you plan to do?

alternatively are you someone who finds mental health week/month triggering or confronting? How will you take care of yourself during this time?

i am curious to hear other peoples experiences and thoughts, for me I find it a difficult time as I am more likely to see triggering posts about mental health on my social media I also often feel left out because often my type of mental illness is never even mentioned and just continues to be swept under the rug. But sometimes I get the urge to want to say something and then I remember it is not really safe for me to do so.

Re: Mental health month/week - A Call For Action

I think we will just have to agree to disagree on that one. I write what I write based on my own personal experiences. If others want to dismiss them as irrelevant or invalid so be it.

@Willy I am not sure if you are referring to my post or @chibam‘s post

@chibam this is the exact stigma that is the reason psychotic people are treated terribly so what if there was some violent psychotic people there are violent non psychotic people and far more violent non psychotic people than psychotic ones but we can’t just lock up the average population and treat them like animals because of the minority of them are violent. Men are on average more violent than women but we don’t have laws to lock up men indiscriminately just because some men are violent this is the same faulty logic that lets psychotic people be treated as animals and quite frankly I find it offensive to be told that I should consider the “normal peoples” concerns when they should be more concerned about the fact that their government is letting innocent people die in hospitals due to terrible restraint practices all in the name of “protection”.

@Eden1919 I was referring to your recent post about my road rage experience. I am now thinking about @chibam 's recent posts. Imo he raises some interesting and valid points that I would like to reflect on for a bit before responding🙂

@Willy and @chibam i understand you both have your own opinions but if you whish to discuss them could you perhaps start a new thread that i am not tagged in as this discussion has frankly become very upsetting for me and was not the intended direction of this thread in the beginning. @moderator i hope this is ok to ask i am just not feeling comfortable about this discussion otherwise should i just try and turn off notifications on this post?

Eden, I won't tag you, as requested. But if you come back to this thread, I'm sorry my comments upset you. That wasn't my intention.

I like to think of myself as a fair person, and I try to considder issues, as best I can, from all sides.

I've come to realize that the community I want to live in is a place that many others would be horrified to have to live in. This creates a very tricky dillemma, in which creating a home for myself and my kindred spirits could easily result in the destruction of other peoples' beloved home culture/society; as the norms that they deeply cherish, which give them an invaluable sense of belonging, are torn down by my lot who view those norms as oppressive and undesirable.

My ethos (and that of my kindred) is all about creating happiness, not about destroying it. So I could not sleep well at night, knowing that our homecoming came at the expense of casting other people into an incomprehensible nightmareland that they never wanted nor asked for. In effect, that leaves me with the dillemma of how to change the world in a way that would make a marked improvement for my kindred, while being as unnoticeable as possible for people who liked their society just the way it was. A new home being built, without the old one being harmed.

This quest for mutual happiness - and thus, a permanent end to hostilities - often leads me to considdering things from "the other side"'s point of view, sometimes at the expense of the people who are currantly suffering.

I apologize if I went overboard this time.

This conversation has come alive. @chibam @Eden1919 @Willy @tyme @Zoe7 Me, I'm an uber-humanist, so yes, we need interventions for the general safety of all involved concerning psychosis (also psychopaths and sociopaths, while we're at it).

Then the real question comes down to quality of intervention with general-safety and mh-safety considerations. Looking at the problem of psychotic homeless people on the street, maybe that could be a consideration for not manufacturing a housing crisis. That would stop a lot of bad things from not happening again. (ra ra ra ra ra soapbox).

For all the rest of the many considerable issues, I'm thinking collaboration, I'm thinking "social-fabric" and I'm thinking I also need some time to think on this.
