Home Again

Home Again

Well, this is my first time posting here.

I'm 68, live alone, have a long history of mental health issues. I've been home for a few days now after two weeks in an acute ward. I'm not as distressed and agitated as I was when I went into hospital, but coming home is coming home to the same cul-de-sac I was in before admission. I feel dislocated from the world and people's lives, which seem to be going on as they usually do. I'm barely functional.

My local crisis team told me about this space, so I am taking my first tentative steps here. Perhaps there is community...

Re: Home Again

Hey @Hurtle! Welcome to the Forums, we are so glad you are here.

It is such a tough time transitioning back to home and it can definitely feel like you are dissociated and disconnected from those around you. This is totally normal and expected - you have just been through something that can be really challenging.

We have a wonderful community of supportive members here and I hope that you can find it to be a safe, welcoming and supportive space 💛

Sitting with you here today 💜

Kind regards

Re: Home Again

@Hurtle, when we are feeling so lost, it's hard to comprehend that other people's lives seem to be going on as usual, and the sun is still shining. How can everything seem so normal in everyone else's world? But don't imagine that everyone else's life is going along smoothly. Just concern yourself with yours as theirs is very likely all 'appearances'. I don't know anyone whose life is not in a mess, so work on yours.

I'm dislocated from the world and people's lives too, but instead of thinking of it as a glass half empty, mine is half full and I'm always looking for ways to fill the other half. I have interests that keep me achieving and that is very important to me. It is not only fulfilling my life but occupying my time fruitfully. Empty time negatively impacts our self-worth and is a waste of a precious resource.

Do you have interests @Hurtle? If not, find some. YouTube is a valuable resource if you want to learn something new.

And don't forget, there is peace in disconnection if it isn't all we have.

I don't know what else to say. I hope others may have some words of wisdom. I send you my good wishes and hope the day has shown you a little kindness. Cheers.

Re: Home Again

Thanks @Historylover , purpose is so important to well being I think.

I have to confess, though, that holding a sense of hope and positivity is not my strong suit. And right now the thread that connects me to things feels very thin and spidery.

Might be time for a cup of tea...

Re: Home Again

Hello @Hurtle and welcome. I'm in the same age bracket and also navigating life solo. Yes, there's a sense of community here, and you'll find people with similar outlooks and experiences gravitating together. I look forward to seeing you around.

Best wishes to you in your recovery, I hope things get easier for you

Thanks @Dimity I'm hoping things get easier too, and that connecting with people here will be part of that.

Re: Home Again

Give it time @Hurtle. I hope you're factoring some self-care into your day and doing something pleasurable. I joined the Walking for Wellness thread and look forward to my daily walk. There are threads here for different interests and for social catch-ups. And there are Community Guides like @Shaz51 @HenryX @Bow who meet and greet and provide support.
