Tiredness from medicine

Tiredness from medicine

Hello,

I am on a couple of psychiatric medicines. I take one at night and it's to be taken with food so I have it straight after my dinner. The issue I'm having is that I get very sleepy and tired quite early in the evening and usually this leads to me going to bed early. Then I am waking early (between 4:30am and 6am) so I tend to get out of bed. The early starts can compound my tiredness in the evenings.

I'm trying to delay my dinner times until a bit later so my medicine might make me sleepy later.

Does anyone relate or have suggestions on medicine related fatigue and how to stay up in the evenings?

You should be able to take the medication with a small amount of food, instead of a meal.

Perhaps have a light supper just half an hour before bedtime and take the medication then? A small serve of yoghurt or half a banana, or a few crackers with cheese would be sufficient, just enough that your stomach isn't completely empty.

Just struggling with the same thing with increased antipsychotics. I have no real solution beyond what you've suggested, but suggest being really strict taking meds at the same time each night... good luck!

I had an idea overnight. I have no idea what medications you are on, but have you tried XR versions (sustained released versions of your meds). I can't get a good night's sleep on the regular version (I ususally wake up early) and I am much sleepier during the day on the regular version.
