Diagnosis storyline

Diagnosis storyline

Heya,

I’m a 35 year old fella living in Brisbane and have lived with mental health challenges most of my adult life. Can’t remember much about the childhood and what that was like.
I was originally diagnosed with depression and generalised anxiety, then social anxiety was added, then unofficially Asperger’s by a counsellor not a psychiatrist.

It stayed like that until I a psychotic episode that lasted more than a year.
once my mind got settled enough for me to realise there was something wrong, I sought help, and this psychiatrist labeled me with schizophrenia and OCD. I knew I experienced psychosis but didn’t buy into schizophrenia. So I stopped taking my antipsychotics after a few months and was fine. fine meaning there is still some paranoid thinking and slight delusions but I can see through them.
later on I was diagnosed with schizotypal personality disorder or autism with psychotic depression.
The psychiatrist said there is no point for me being assessed as there are no interventions for someone around my age. My therapist thinks similar.
At work no one can tell if I have any personality disorder. I’ve worked hard on my communication skills and have meditated and learned enough thoughts to manage myself.
but I can tell from my personal life there is something not right. I have been single for more than 10 years and tend to seek isolation when not working. Haven’t made new friends in a decade.
part of me wonders if I even want a relationship or friends or if that’s what I say to people and therapist because that’s how I should be/think/behave.
I know personality disorders are fairly rigid and don’t change much, but part of me wants to believe that’s not true.
I wonder if anyone can relate or have worked through something similar ?

STPB

thank you if you have read my rambling post.
be cool 😎

Not a ramble at all @Amir ! Thank you for sharing!

I'm sure others will be able to share their journeys of rising above their challenges to make change. It can definitely done. I'm sure it's not comfortable, but it's do-able 🙂

Do you have a therapist that can perhaps talk you through your journey in discovering another part of yourself? I know it has certainly helped me 🙂

Re: Diagnosis storyline

Thanks for the response.
I have and had therapist for years, but not much has changed externally. I have been just barely functioning and not felt like living at all.
Therapy heals with maintaining myself but hasn’t really lead to any meaningful changes. That’s why I thought maybe finding someone who has worked through something similar could be more helpful

Keep doing what you are doing tyme world needs more peer workers ✌️

Awww, that means a lot to me. Thank you @Amir .

I know from experience that there's a better kind of normal. We just have to work at it.

I'm ready to go that way with you. It'll be hard, but worth it.

Re: Diagnosis storyline

Hi @Amirwhat can I say try meet up groups if they have them in your area.

maybe keep your diagnosis to yourself till you know the person well enough and mention it’s all under control.

im 34 so I don’t know if you want to take any advice from someone younger, but I have had schizophrenia since about 21

I would also like to improve my situation maybe we can start a thread for improving circumstances and what steps to take, just an idea

Thanks for your response @Former-Member
Good tips which I have tried.

No meetups in my area match closely with what I am looking for. Might need to create one, one day.
Btw, just because you are younger doesn't mean I am further in my journey. Everybody knows something I don't and I am [almost] always open to learning.

I like the idea of starting our own thread, or meetup, as a safe place to connect and be vulnerable to share and learn.
There are already you and @tyme. That is a good start
