Something’s not right

Having a bad day.

Having a bad day.

Hi… I am having an especially bad day today. I went through a breakup a few month back and my ex left me for someone else, very suddenly. I have been really struggling ever since. Today, I have tried all my strategies, going for a walk, writing in my journal, listening to an ebook… and I still can’t stop thinking about the break up, the other woman, what was wrong with me, how dark and shapeless I feel inside. I have lost so much… I can’t see a future for myself, no matter how I try. I have had a lot of suicidal thoughts today… no actual planning, but it really does feel unbearable and endless and I don’t know how much longer I can keep being strong. I think I just need support. I have rung beyondblue and lifeline… I wish they helped more, but people just seem to repeat what I am saying back to me and then refer me to services, which leaves me feeling empty. I need to feel like someone is really here for me, I feel so alone, please help me, someone. Anyone.

Re: Having a bad day.

Thank you, Little Leopard. I think I probably should get into something to distract myself. I was told that some people with depression can train their brains to be interested in life by doing things that were interesting before depression hit. I might try something like that. I do need to learn how to distract my brain. It is really powerful, the brain. Isn’t it?

Incredibly powerful @Helpmeheal . Science proves it. People can learn to 'change their brain'. I know I have - through targeted therapy and practice.

Re: Having a bad day.

Hi @Helpmeheal, Yeah you could try doing something that you use to do. For me, doing something that I have always wanted to do but haven’t had the time was better for my needs because it required my full attention and therefore occupied my mind better.
I can see though how going back to something you use to enjoy would be comforting.
Maybe give both a go. If one doesn’t work then you can try the other.

yes the brain is! Hope you are feeling ok today.

Re: Having a bad day.

Hi @tyme … today was rough but I let myself stay in bed in the darkness with white noise going… I try to not do it too often, but today, I just needed to stop trying to fight it… I feel a little bit better tonight. It is good to find these forums. I feel less alone, reading that other people are also struggling. It is nice to be able to talk to people who understand. Kind of a relief.

At least we are not alone… right?

Re: Having a bad day.

Definitely not alone @Helpmeheal !

I see you around on the forums, and am so encouraged to see the support you are providing to so may members.

I myself find that when I support others, I get so much in return. I find it very meaningful and rewarding.

Any thoughts?

@tyme , I am feeling a bit better this evening than I was feeling … I actually was looking forward to getting on these forums. Yes, comforting others… I feel less alone, giving and receiving comfort. Maybe that is why I am feeling a bit better tonight? I definitely will keep coming back to these forums.

Providing peer support has been such a powerful element of my recovery @Helpmeheal . I feel you are also feeling its power!
