Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

I am the shell of the person I used to be and there is no going back. Is there any chance I’ll wake up and realise it’s been a nightmare?

Hi @creative_writer,

I'm really sorry to read you are feeling like this. It sounds like things are really hard for you at the moment. I'm a big believer in hope - nobody knows what good things tomorrow may bring.

I really hope you're okay - we are here for you.

Warmest,

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@FloatingFeather I was not depressed for two days and I don’t know why. But I am here again. My mood makes no sense. And now I start ruminating over the past, which worsens the symptoms. I guess depression and cptsd feed off each other. I just want to feel whole. I don’t feel good enough. I have too many issues, too much baggage.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I can read the pain in your post @creative_writer. You are good enough - you really are and you are worthy and deserving of a good and happy life.

Ruminating is one of my specialities so I know how that feels! I also know (easier said than done I know) that it doesn't really help anything it just usually makes things feel worse.

I have sent you an email - if you can respond when you can it would be much appreciated.

Warmest,

FloatingFeather

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@FloatingFeather I’ve responded to the email. I guess the tiredness, physical pain and feeling low hasn’t really been with rumination. I was able to separate myself from the past when I was feeling better. But now, it’s just hard. It’s like my brain is trying to find reasons why I am worthless. I wouldn’t blame a SA survivor, yet, it’s hard when it comes to oneself. I feel like I’ve broken social norms, or somehow transgressed. Maybe it’s the culture of victim blaming and taboo that feeds shame.

Thanks for your email response @creative_writer - it's much appreciated.

How any can blame a victim is beyond me as there is no justification to ever put blame on a victim.

Sometimes I think we are harsher on ourselves than anyone else. As you said, you 'wouldn't blame a SA survivor'. I think you should extend that thinking to yourself - you aren't to blame either. Sometimes when I am being tough on myself I like to think what would my best friend say to me and I know she would be supportive, comforting, understanding etc - for some reason we aren't always as kind to ourselves as we would be to others. You deserve understanding, support and kindness to my friend.

Warmest,

FloatingFeather

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@FloatingFeather victim blaming makes no sense, but it’s hard not to internalise it. I guess I care too much about what other people think. I feel like women are often so scrutinised.

It is true, that incorporating self-compassion is important, like we would with a person we care about.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

I get the blaming yourself @creative_writer. But in most circumstances it’s not your fault. I invited him into my home. That’s when it’s my fault.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Invited in the home, on a date, had a coffee, what someone wore, etc there is never justification or circumstance where it is the fault of the victim @Captain24. The fault lies solely with the offender.

I hope you are both okay @Captain24 and @creative_writer ❤️
