Welcome and getting started

First post!

First post!

Hi everyone

I’m new to this, duh. After 35 years of therapy, private and group, misdiagnosis, 3 kinds of antidepressants, I was finally diagnosed with Complex PTSD and level 1 Autism. Hurrah!

My life now makes sense!
So never give up on therapy, reading about your illness or living your best life.

Best wishes👋🏻

Re: First post!

Afternoon @psychedelic66 and welcome again to the forums! I see you navigated to change your profile pic, and what a cute profile pic it is 😊

So great to meet another member of the c-PTSD club! There are a few of us here in the forums who share that title and with some similar life experiences that go along with it.

Loving your attitude to life despite it throwing what sounds like a few curve balls your way. Sometimes I hear the theme song to Roseanne in my head, and this is one of those moments – we're not out for the count yet!

Calling out to some of our brilliant Community Guides who I'm sure will be keen to meet you and share some of your journey:

Re: First post!

HI @psychedelic66

Welcome to the forums! I'm so glad you found us. It sounds like you've had a long road to getting a diagnosis - 35 years !!! Wow. How are you feeling now that you have this diagnosis? I imagine it's a mix of relief but also frustration that it took so long for the health professionals to work it out! I used to work with a woman who was in her 70s and adamant she had autism but could simply not get a proper diagnosis. Some of my team told her 'what does it matter' but she said she wanted to know and it was her right to know. I completely agreed. I always wonder about her as I left that role so never knew how it all went with her.

Anyway, again, it's great to see you here. Have a look around as there are many social spaces and the like that you may find of interest.

Many hugs to you

Re: First post!

@psychedelic66 That's so encouraging to hear.

What kind of therapy do you think helped you the most?

I was diagnosed with level 2 Autism and need to start some kind of therapy.

Good to hear from you 💕

Re: First post!

@Christheart
Hi👋🏻
I have been seeing a pysch one-on-one every 3 months since she diagnosed me last year after 5 years with her.
I have read every book I can find about Autism. I am not on medication specifically for Autism.
I won’t do group therapy again, it was helpful for 3 years but I did not know what my real diagnosis was then! I did CBT and ACT, both were very good.
Take care❤️

Re: First post!

Hi and welcome @psychedelic66 👋

So pleased for you ❣️

Different circumstance entirely, but I have only “recently” received a medical education regarding some very long term relationships that it would have been very.helpful to know from the outset of them. But it would also have drastically altered my decisions and resulting life experiences ……and that would have been just as difficult considering the who’s and what’s I treasure now. I don’t know that this new information is helpful regarding my past, but it sure is in terms of my present and future.

All the best, and I hope you find a lot of connections and support on the forums.

Re: First post!

Hi
Yes. You learn the hard way, but never too late.
Letting go of toxic people, even family, is distressing but necessary for your own survival.
Regret will eat you up.
Always look forward.
